Job description

Online interview
In every single F1 race Sportradar systems track 360,000 car positions. That’s 8,280,000 car positions in every season.  And that’s just Formula 1. Our engineers are there for every kick, pass, shot, mouse click and change in the odds. That’s 300 million odds changes every month. A data set that’s growing by 30TB every month. A team committing at a rate that triggers 30,000 CI pipeline executions a month, to codebases more than 30,000,000 lines long…

Ensuring that all that data is reliable and accurate is no mean feat. We value local decision making and empower our engineers to shape their role. With ‘make it better time’, you get to propose and show us where we should change/innovate. Using the Spotify model ensures we can make decisions quickly with increased emphasis on autonomy, the organization becomes more flexible, adaptable, and productive. We are actively adopting test-driven development as it matches our engineering principle ‘if it’s not tested, its broken’. We follow a cloud native strategy; managed services enable us to focus on the problems that interest us most – and we invest in our people with AWS training as we recognize the skills modern developers need to succeed. We’ve a preference for modern lightweight microservices; we leverage the right tools for the job – our most widespread languages are Java & TypeScript. If this sounds interesting, we should talk.

Join our team and become a part of the global fast-growing success of Sportradar. Sportradar has a number of MySQL Databases that are critical to day-to-day business operations and used by multiple products and squads across the company. We’re setting up a new Centre of Excellence squad within Core Engineering to focus on the central databases and promote best practices across the organization.

THE CHALLENGE:

Working alongside the Lead DBA and other members of the CoE squad you will:

  • Focus on ensuring operational excellence for the core databases
  • Work with Engineers and Architects to evolve the strategic direction for the core database platform, including cloud migration and data componentization
  • Carry out capacity planning, patching and maintain the general health of the core databases
  • Implement best practices with regards backup, recovery and disaster recovery
  • Engage with both other DBAs and Engineers within other business units to promote best practices and ensure that our applications are built according to sound data principles

YOUR PROFILE:

You will be able to demonstrate many of the following skills, with both an aptitude and willingness to develop along any you may not have today.

  • Experience in administering large scale, highly available MySQL Databases, both self-hosted and in the cloud (AWS preferable); including capacity planning, infrastructure as code and performance tunning
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience using Change Data Capture replication (such as Debezium)
  • Familiarity with other database technologies, including NoSQL.
  • Able to balance pragmatic solutions against longer term strategic visions

OUR OFFER:

  • The opportunity to work and develop within an inspiring and fast-growing company
  • The possibility to help shaping the future of Sportradar. All employees are directly contributing to products used by our clients in the global sports business.
  • Involvement in shaping your own workday and career through high degree of freedom to choose technology and your personal development.
  • A collaborative environment with colleagues from all over the world (Engineering offices in Europe, Asia and US).
  • A company culture that promotes social aspects, sports, physical exercise and fun.
