Mainframe Application Developer (Senior / Expert Level)

Introduction & Summary
We are seeking three seasoned Mainframe Application Developers with extensive expertise in IBM mainframe systems. The ideal candidates will possess strong skills in Assembler, CICS, and VSAM while being able to effectively implement business requirements and stabilize systems. Fluency in German is a very stron asset.

Main Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include the enhancement and maintenance of existing application programs, analysis, design, and implementation of business requirements in the commercial insurance domain.

• Enhancement and maintenance of existing application programs on IBM mainframe systems

• Analysis, design, and implementation of business requirements from the commercial insurance domain

• Root cause analysis and incident resolution in production environments (2nd and 3rd level support)

• Close collaboration with business departments, test management, and adjacent IT teams

• Active participation in a distributed team setup (onsite / nearshore)

• Creation and maintenance of technical documentation

Key Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Assembler in an IBM mainframe environment (z/OS, optionally DOS/VSE)

• Solid experience with CICS

• Confident handling of VSAM data sets

• Several years of professional experience in mainframe application development

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of PL/I

• Interface experience or system knowledge related to SAP FS-CD

• Experience in modernization or transformation programs (e.g. factor10 or comparable initiatives)

• Domain knowledge in non-life / commercial insurance

The project is situated in the Insurance industry (Non-Life / Commercial) with a focus on stable operations, functional extensions, and long-term modernization of core systems. The team works in a hybrid setup (Onsite + Nearshore) with a long-term engagement type on a project basis, suitable for freelancers or external specialists.
