Principal Engineer

Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Principal Engineer / SaaS Platform Architect for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Europe. Our client is a leading global provider that gathers information and reports to enhance the environmental and social impacts on the business. 

Requirements:

• Strong knowledge of at least one of the languages, such as C#/.NET, Java, Python, or TypeScript.

• Experience in designing and implementing modern authentication/authorization using the OpenID Connect Protocol and OAuth2.

• Familiarity with common attack vectors to web applications (OWASP top 10) and understanding how to design software that is secure by default.

• Deep understanding of Azure, Azure Container Apps, App Services, Functions, Service Bus, Azure SQL/Postgres, Front Door.

• Expertise in designing and building multi-tenant SaaS architectures (you've shipped, not just designed).

• Understanding of scalability patterns: horizontal scaling, async processing, caching, and sharding.

• Familiarity with microservices, event-driven systems, and knowing when a monolith is actually the right call.

• You embrace ambiguity, drive decisions, and take extreme ownership of outcomes.

• You stay current with new technologies and patterns (including new AI/GenAI technologies). You tinker with new tech on weekends because you love it.

• You balance "boring technology" stability with modern AI-driven innovation.

• You can clearly explain complex AI/cloud concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• You hold "strong opinions, loosely held." You adapt quickly when requirements or technology shift.

• You elevate the team's bar through code reviews, pairing, and design discussions, not just edicts.

• Have a modern, engineering-first mindset.

• You donʼt wait to be told what to do and define the path forward when the problem is ambiguous.

  
  

Big Plus:

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering/architecture.

• Experience with Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Workflows, Databricks SQL.

• Knowledge of integration of Azure OpenAI/LLMs into production workflows

• Knowledge of RAG patterns.

• Familiarity with agentic workflows and tool-calling architectures.

• A STEM degree from a reputable University.

Responsibilities:

• Architect and build a secure, scalable multi-tenant SaaS platform on Azure.

• Make pragmatic architectural decisions (monolith vs. microservices) based on constraints, maturity, and outcomes.

• Implement resilient services: horizontal scaling, async processing, and caching.

• Build for production from day one: observability, reliability, cost control, and operational excellence.

• Raise the engineering bar through pairing, code reviews, and clear technical direction.
