Responsibilities
Position Purpose: We’re looking for a QA Automation Lead to elevate quality across our Global Payments organization. This is a strategic, hands-on leadership role that combines deep automation expertise with ownership of end-to-end UAT programs. You will define quality engineering standards, architect scalable automation solutions, mentor engineers, and partner with Product, DevOps, and Operations to ensure our mission-critical payments platform is secure, resilient, and ready for production.
As a senior technical leader, you’ll influence engineering culture, guide teams toward best practices, and ensure testability, observability, and automation are built into everything we deliver. This role is ideal for someone ready to move beyond individual contributions into leading people, processes, and technology within a modern engineering organization.
Primary duties will include:
Automation Strategy & Technical Leadership
Define the automation vision, roadmap, and standards for frontend, backend, and API testing across the Global Payments group.
Architect and maintain scalable, reusable automation frameworks (Playwright, xUnit, NBomber, etc.).
Ensure automated test suites are reliable, fast, and deeply integrated into CI/CD (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
Establish quality gates, code coverage expectations, and best practices for test design, data management, and environments.
Continuous Delivery & Secure Testing
Partner with DevOps and SecOps to embed automated security practices (SAST, DAST, dependency scanning) into the delivery pipeline.
Drive adoption of shift-left testing, including contract tests, static analysis, and performance testing.
Monitor CI/CD health, triage failures, and ensure automation remains a first-class citizen in the delivery lifecycle.
UAT Leadership & Business Partnership
Own the planning, coordination, execution, and sign-off of UAT cycles across features, releases, and compliance-driven changes.
Create structured UAT plans, acceptance criteria, runbooks, and stakeholder communications.
Lead cross-functional defect triage, ensuring issues are addressed quickly and transparently.
Act as a bridge between engineering teams and business operations (settlements, reconciliations, payments workflows).
Quality Governance & Team Development
Mentor and upskill QA and automation engineers; guide developers on improving testability and adopting quality practices.
Champion continuous improvement efforts, driving metrics, observability, and quality KPIs for teams and leadership.
Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to prioritize quality initiatives, testing infrastructure, and tooling investments.
Qualifications
To land this role you will need:
Technical & Domain Expertise
7+ years in test automation, quality engineering, or SDET roles, including experience leading automation initiatives or teams.
Strong coding and test-development skills in JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, or C#.
Hands-on mastery of automation frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, xUnit, or equivalent).
Familiarity with secure testing tools (SonarQube, Snyk, Checkmarx, Trivy) and modern CI/CD systems.
Experience in financial services — payments, FX, settlements, reconciliations, SWIFT, or ISO 20022 is a strong plus.
Leadership & Collaboration
Proven ability to lead engineers, guide teams, and influence stakeholders without formal authority.
Excellent communicator with the ability to translate technical detail into business insights.
Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for raising the bar on engineering quality.
Education / Certification Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (Computer Systems, Software, IT&T, Systems) or relevant experience.
Working environment:
FTE (UoP).
