ETL/Data Engineer (with Power BI)

We have an exciting opportunity for an ETL / Data Engineer who is passionate about building data engineering systems and working with Power BI. This is a key role where you will join a small Sofomo team working for one of our clients. You will help design, build and execute a new data engineering system that connects to multiple third party data points combined with developing the Power BI reports. Over time you will have an opportunity to build custom data engineering solutions.

Experience with services such as Redshift/Azure SQL/BigQuery is a strong plus. Also, you will need to have previous data warehouse, ETL and other data engineering experiences. We are looking for someone with at least 2 years of experience in data engineering.

Responsibilities:

• Own the end-to-end delivery of Power BI reports and dashboards, from requirement gathering to deployment and support

• Integrate data from multiple sources (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, APIs, Excel, Azure storage, etc.), ensuring consistency and traceability

• Write advanced DAX logic for complex calculations, nested business rules, and dynamic filtering across large datasets

• Act as a key partner to product owners, business leaders, and data teams, helping shape reporting roadmaps and translating strategic needs into technical solutions

Must have:

• 2y+ Hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service

• Advanced proficiency in DAX and Power Query (M), with a strong focus on performance tuning and reusable logic

• Strong practical SQL skills (T-SQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) with experience in writing optimized queries, managing joins across large datasets, and debugging data issues

• Deep understanding of data modeling principles, including star/snowflake schemas, relationship management, cardinality, and best practices for semantic layer design

• Solid grasp of the theory and structure of data warehouses, including concepts like fact and dimension tables, surrogate keys, SCDs, and normalization/denormalization strategies

• Experience designing and orchestrating ETL pipelines using tools such as Azure Data Factory, SSIS, or custom-built frameworks

Nice to have:

• Experience working with Cloud solutions, preferably Azure Data Platform components (Storage Accounts, Data Factory, Synapse, Azure SQL)

• Familiarity with Git, DevOps, or CI/CD practices for versioning and deploying BI solutions

• Relevant certifications (e.g. PL-300, DP-203, or equivalent) or other proof of skills such as public portfolios, GitHub repos, case studies, or project documentation
