Junior ETL/Data Engineer (with Power BI)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior ETL / Data Engineer who wants to grow their career in data engineering and Power BI.

This is a supporting role where you will join a Sofomo team working for one of our clients. You will participate in building and maintaining ETL pipelines, integrating data from multiple sources, and developing Power BI reports and dashboards. You will work closely with more experienced data engineers and BI developers, learning best practices and gradually taking more ownership of data solutions.

Over time, you will have the opportunity to grow into a more independent ETL / Data Engineer role and contribute to designing custom data engineering solutions.

This position is ideal for someone who already has basic commercial experience or strong hands-on projects and is ready to deepen their skills in real-world data environments.

Responsibilities:

• Support the development and maintenance of ETL pipelines that integrate data from multiple sources (SQL databases, APIs, files, cloud storage)

• Assist in delivering Power BI reports and dashboards, from data preparation to publishing and basic support

• Write and optimize SQL queries used for data transformation, validation, and reporting

• Develop basic to intermediate DAX measures and calculated columns under guidance

• Help maintain and improve data models (fact and dimension tables, relationships, schemas)

• Basic knowledge of data modeling concepts (fact vs dimension tables, relationships)

• Familiarity with at least one relational database (e.g. SQL Server, PostgreSQL)

• Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail, and willingness to learn

• Good communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment

Nice to have:

• Experience or exposure to cloud data platforms (especially Azure: Data Factory, Azure SQL, Storage Accounts)

• At least basic knowledge of DAX and Power Query (M)

• At least basic experience with Python or another scripting language used for data processing

• Familiarity with Git or basic version control workflows

• Participation in commercial, academic, or personal projects involving ETL, Power BI, or data analyticsMonitor data quality and help identify inconsistencies or anomalies in datasets

• Collaborate with senior data engineers, BI developers, product owners, and analysts to translate business requirements into data solutions

Must have:

• Minimum 1,5y  of commercial experience or strong practical experience through internships or projects in data engineering, BI, or analytics

• Hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop and basic familiarity with Power BI Service

• Practical SQL skills, including writing joins, aggregations, and basic performance optimization

• Understanding of ETL concepts and data transformation workflows
