Job description

Online interview

At pawaPass, we’re not just building a product - we’re designing the foundation of trusted digital identity in Africa. Our platform powers KYC, verification, and onboarding for emerging markets across the continent, with real-world applications in fintech, betting, mobile wallets, and more.

We’ve entered a new phase: fresh funding, new hires, and a platform that’s being rebuilt from the ground up. We're looking for a Senior UX/UI Product Designer to lead this transformation - to evolve and unify how trust, security, and simplicity are felt across millions of user interactions.

This is not a "design ticket" job. This is a strategic, foundational design role - with room to reshape visual identity, UX patterns, and the product experience from day one.

About the role:

  • You’ll be the lead Product Designer across:

    • Our customer-facing web app, used for identity verification

    • Our partner-facing dashboard, used by B2B clients to manage verifications, API access, and more

  • You’ll inherit a design system - but only briefly. Your first challenge will be to refresh, simplify, and ultimately replace it with a new design language that balances clarity, trust, and usability.

You’ll collaborate closely with:

  • Tech Lead (Fullstack Developer)

  • Frontend Engineer

  • Project Manager

  • The Group CPTO all deeply involved in product thinking.

This is a role with autonomy, but not isolation. We all care about the product, and we want your ideas at the table.

What you’ll do:

  • Redesign and evolve the customer-facing UX to increase trust, clarity, and conversion

  • Bring structure and simplicity to complex mobile-first and low-bandwidth experiences

  • Create wireframes, user journeys, clickable prototypes, and polished UI for high-conversion flows

  • Define design standards, component systems, and UX guidelines for reuse

  • Collaborate with engineers to ensure designs are feasible, consistent, and fast to implement

  • Support early wireframing for the admin/partner dashboard, focused on clarity and performance

  • Analyze Amplitude data, customer interviews, and market feedback to improve design

  • Drive user research in collaboration with our partners and local markets

Tooling & Environment:

  • Design tools: Figma, Miro, pen&paper (if it works, it works)

  • Data tools: Amplitude, Customer interviews, Partner feedback loops

  • Product process: We launch fast, test live, and iterate quickly

  • Tech stack (for collaboration): React.js, Next.js, Tailwind, Node.js, Prisma

What we’re looking for:

You’re a hybrid designer: part UX thinker, part UI artist, all product. You don’t just design screens - you design trust, design flows, and design outcomes.

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • See constraints (bandwidth, device limitations, user context) as creative fuel

  • Can quickly improve existing UX while laying the foundation for a better system

  • Know how to balance beauty with brutal simplicity (especially for emerging markets)

  • Understand emerging market challenges (e.g. mobile-first design, biometric flows, camera permissions)

  • Want to contribute to the product strategy, not just design handoffs

  • Are opinionated on UX, but flexible enough to ship and iterate

  • Love collaborating with engineers and value clarity over cleverness

You’ll need:

  • 5+ years designing product UX/UI (mobile flows, dashboards)

  • Expert-level Figma skills, including components, auto-layout, and responsive design

  • Strong portfolio showing functional design, not just visual polish

  • Deep understanding of UX best practices and accessibility

  • Ability to build low-fi wireframes, clickable prototypes, and high-fidelity UI

  • Experience with data-driven design, A/B testing, and iteration cycles

  • Familiarity with mobile-first, offline-friendly, and low-bandwidth design

  • Comfortable working closely with developers, PMs, and even end users

Nice to have:

  • Experience designing in fintech, KYC, or identity platforms

  • Familiarity with biometric or document scanning UX

  • Prior work in emerging markets or regulated industries

  • Basic understanding of frontend technologies (you won’t code, but speaking dev helps)

Why this role is different:

  • You’ll shape the visual and UX identity of a product already live in several markets

  • You’ll lead design across both customer and B2B sides of the platform

  • You’ll help define how trust and identity should feel in fast-growing economies

  • You’ll own your craft, with full support from a deeply technical, product-driven team

This is real impact design, not just “make it look nice.”You’re solving messy, meaningful problems for users who have limited bandwidth, low-end devices, and a real need for clarity.

What we offer:

  • A key design role in a funded, fast-moving startup

  • MacBook Pro M4 and full setup

  • Hybrid work (2–3 days per week in our Wrocław office, located in the Capitol Theatre building)

  • Flexible hours and async collaboration

  • Full-time B2B contract

  • 20 days paid time off + paid sick leave

  • Regular team-building gatherings, because we enjoy spending time together after work too :)

  • A team that actually cares about design and product, not just shipping fast

What we stand for:

We’re deeply embedded in Sub-Saharan Africa, with privileged access to top-tier betting platforms, mobile wallet providers, and regulatory stakeholders. We're serious about privacy (zero-data by design), performance under constraints, and building for real-world, low-bandwidth environments. Our goal is to exit the incubator phase and become the default KYC verification layer for Africa’s digital economy within 18 months. Join now, and your fingerprints will be on the architecture, the experience - and the movement.

Excited about this opportunity? Let's talk about the possibility of creating the best software and amazing products for Africa together!

5 871 - 7 633 USD/month

Net per month - B2B
