Senior Scala Developer

Salary: 1100 - 1300 PLN/day on B2B

Work model: hybrid from Gdynia / Gdańsk / Warszawa (2/3 days per week from the office)

Project

The project focuses on building and optimizing large-scale data processing pipelines in a complex financial services environment, leveraging Scala, Apache Spark, and modern orchestration tools such as Airflow and Oozie. The engineer will design, develop, and maintain high-performance distributed data workflows, ensuring data quality, scalability, and reliability across multi-terabyte datasets. The role also involves close collaboration with analysts and data scientists to support advanced analytics, regulatory reporting, and AML/KYC use cases.

Responsibilities you'll have

• Design, build, and optimize large-scale distributed data processing pipelines using Scala and Apache Spark
• Develop and maintain ETL/ELT workflows orchestrated in Airflow and Oozie
• Ensure performance, scalability, and reliability of Spark jobs, including tuning, partitioning, and memory optimization
• Implement high-quality, testable code with strong unit and integration test coverage
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and engineering teams to support analytics, AML/KYC, and regulatory reporting use cases
• Monitor data quality, perform profiling, and manage schema consistency across datasets
• Participate in CI/CD workflows, code reviews, and best-practice engineering processes
• Support migration efforts, legacy workflow modernization, and improvements in data governance and security

Requirements

• 5–8+ years of software development experience (Scala)
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with big data technologies
• Proven experience working with large-scale data processing (multi-terabyte datasets)
• Background in financial services or RegTech (preferred)
• Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum, SAFe, or similar)

Nice to Have

• Experience with the Quantexa platform
• Experience migrating workflows from Oozie to Airflow
• Knowledge of data governance and security best practices
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK stack
• Understanding of graph analytics and entity resolution techniques
• Exposure to regulatory reporting and compliance systems
