Java Lead

We are looking for a Java Lead to take ownership of key backend initiatives and guide a growing engineering team working on a global Life Sciences platform. This role is ideal for someone who wants to combine hands-on development with technical leadership, architectural decision-making, and shaping delivery standards. You will drive the development of core services used by major pharmaceutical companies worldwide, working in a stable organisation with real-world impact. 🙋‍♀️

✅ Your responsibilities:

• Lead the development of core backend services, ensuring architectural consistency, scalability, and reliability.

• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based components and new product features.

• Make technical decisions, guide system architecture, and participate in solution design discussions.

• Mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and support knowledge sharing within the team.

• Collaborate with product, QA, and cross-functional engineering teams to refine requirements and plan delivery.

• Work with AWS cloud services, SQL databases, and Tomcat application environments.

• Support production troubleshooting and continuous improvements across the platform.

• Contribute to deployment automation and operational excellence.

  
  

🧠 Our requirements:

• Minimum 7 years of experience in backend development with Java.

• Proven experience in leading or mentoring development teams.

• Strong understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems.

• Experience with AWS (core services) and working in cloud-based environments.

• Solid knowledge of SQL databases and data modelling.

• Hands-on experience with application servers such as Tomcat.

• Ability to design scalable backend systems and take ownership of technical decisions.

• Familiarity with REST APIs, CI/CD practices, and version control tools.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Exposure to Big Data technologies such as Hadoop or Spark.

• Experience with Apache Kafka or other event-driven systems.

• Ability to handle minor frontend tasks in React when needed.

• Experience in medical, healthcare, or Life Sciences projects.
