Senior Sybase DBA & Cloud Migration Specialist

We are seeking a Senior Sybase DBA to join our IT Services team, focusing on Omega application database maintenance and problem resolution.

You will handle hands-on administration, performance tuning, and automation while collaborating closely with engineering and technical teams. Join us to advance your career by optimizing critical database environments and driving effective cloud migration strategies.

Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize Sybase ASE environments version 16.x and above

• Perform database upgrades, migrations, patching, and hardening

• Implement and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery strategies

• Configure servers including tempdb strategy, manage logs, partitions, and I/O alignment

• Monitor and tune database and SQL performance using tools such as sp_sysmon and MDA tables

• Design and maintain backup and restore strategies including point-in-time recovery

• Automate routine DBA tasks using Unix Shell scripting

• Develop CI/CD pipelines for schema changes and patching

• Implement role-based access control, encryption, and auditing to ensure security and compliance

• Collaborate with engineering, architecture, and application teams to provide technical consulting

• Work closely with other DBAs and technical teams to resolve complex issues

• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, regressions, and hotspots

• Automate backup and monitoring processes

• Manage logs and space efficiently to optimize database performance

Requirements

• 8 to 10+ years of hands-on Sybase ASE administration experience

• Strong knowledge of Transact-SQL, query optimization, and stored procedures

• Proficiency in performance tuning, workload baselining, and monitoring tools

• Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and Azure cloud hosting

• Scripting skills in Shell and Python for automating backups, monitoring, and configuration

• Strong problem solving, communication, and time management skills

• Collaborative mindset with ability to work closely with cross-functional teams

• Ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced environments

• English language proficiency C1 (Advanced)

Nice to have

• SAP Sybase ASE Certified Administrator

• Experience with cloud migration and DevOps practices

• Experience with Sybase Replication Server and clustering

• Knowledge of other RDBMS such as PostgreSQL and MS SQL Server

• Familiarity with ETL processes
