MS SQL Engineer
We are searching for a dedicated MS SQL Engineer to support the effective management, security, and optimization of our organization's MS SQL Server databases. As a key part of our database team, you will handle second-level support requests, monitor database health, and contribute to automation and continuous service enhancements.
The role follows regular business hours. Weekend on-call support may be required. On-call duty typically occurs once per month, with a maximum of two occurrences per month.
Responsibilities
Monitor SQL Server database performance, availability, and scheduled jobs (SQL Agent Jobs)
Respond to alerts, troubleshoot L2-level incidents, and escalate critical issues as required
Manage user access, roles, permissions, and support audit and compliance requirements
Support installation, configuration, database creation, restoration, and refresh activities
Perform regular backup checks and assist with restore tests and disaster recovery exercises
Provide support for developers with database object creation, including tables, indexes, stored procedures, and views
Analyze slow-performing queries using execution plans and performance tools
Maintain operational documentation such as SOPs, runbooks, and configuration records
Assist with database deployments, release validations, and implementation of DB changes
Contribute to automation initiatives and recommend operational improvements
Provide 24×7 rotational on-call support when required
Requirements
2+ years of hands-on experience as an MS SQL Database Administrator
Good understanding of MS SQL Server architecture, storage structures, and indexing
Proficiency in backup/restore management using native SQL Server backups
Knowledge of SQL Agent jobs, alerts, and basic performance tuning using DMVs
Understanding of key fundamentals in AlwaysOn, including read-only routing and health monitoring
Working knowledge of T-SQL and basic scripting
Basic Windows Server administration
Basic knowledge of at least one RDBMS such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB
Strong analytical and communication skills
English proficiency at a B2 level to ensure effective communication and documentation
Nice to have
Exposure to AlwaysOn Availability Groups and Failover Cluster Instances
Experience with patching, cumulative updates, and upgrade activities
Familiarity with monitoring tools like SolarWinds, SCOM, or Dynatrace
Understanding of cloud database services such as Azure SQL DB, Azure Managed Instance, AWS RDS for SQL Server, or GCP
Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation
Relevant Microsoft certifications such as MCSA, MCSE, or DP-series credentials
