Summary
The role of Scrum Master focuses on leading agile transformation, managing a team of Scrum Masters and Project Managers while driving continuous improvement in project and software delivery practices. It emphasizes the importance of agile principles for successful project delivery across multiple teams.
Main Responsibilities
- Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
- Ensure ceremonies are productive, time-boxed, and focused on achieving their intended outcomes.
- Coach the team on self-organization and cross-functionality to maximize value delivery.
- Guide the team in creating well-defined sprint goals and realistic sprint commitments.
- Ensure transparency of team progress and work through proper use of Scrum artifacts.
- Identify, track, and proactively remove impediments that block team progress.
- Facilitate conflict resolution and help the team navigate challenges.
- Address team dysfunction and guide teams toward effective collaboration.
- Partner with the IT Business Partner/Product Owner to maintain a healthy, prioritized product backlog.
- Ensure user stories are well-defined, estimated, and ready for sprint planning.
- Help the Product Owner communicate vision, goals, and priorities to the team.
- Facilitate backlog refinement sessions to prepare upcoming work.
- Support the Product Owner in stakeholder management and expectations setting.
- Track and communicate team metrics such as velocity, burn-down charts, and cycle time.
- Identify trends and insights from metrics to drive team improvement.
- Lead retrospectives that generate actionable improvement items.
- Facilitate communication between the development team, Product Owner, and stakeholders.
- Provide visibility into team progress, risks, and impediments to stakeholders.
- Manage expectations regarding delivery timelines and team capacity.
- Protect the team from scope creep and unplanned work during sprints.
- Collaborate with other Scrum Masters to share knowledge and improve practices.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or related field preferred.
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM I) required.
- 3+ years of experience as a Scrum Master or in a similar agile role.
Nice to Have
- Advanced certifications such as Advanced CSM (A-CSM), PSM II, or PSM III.
- Experience working with project teams in an IT environment.
- Familiarity with agile tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Trello, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of DevOps practices and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) is beneficial.
