SME AppD/Observability Engineer
Hybrid: Krakow, 6 days in a month in the office, rest days remote
The Team:
Digital Business Automation (DigiBA) is a global function with over 250 staff across 12 countries. We are responsible for defining and implementing strategies for several critical products across the organization, ensuring their availability, recoverability, and security.
Responsibilities:
- Implement activities in line with the monitoring and observability roadmap for the platform.
- Maintain and consult on the observability and monitoring framework to support the needs of multiple internal stakeholders.
- Work with application teams to set up observability for their applications and infrastructure, including dashboards, visualization, monitoring, and providing consultancy on self-healing solutions.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, application developers, management, and infrastructure teams to assess and meet monitoring and observability needs.
- Drive monitoring and observability standards to enhance the consumer experience of mission-critical applications, services, and business processes.
- Stay updated on emerging observability tools, trends, and methodologies to improve existing systems and processes.
- Build practices for performance and tracing using tools like Splunk, AppDynamics, and ThousandEyes.
- Engineer solutions and establish standards for functional components like Splunk, ThousandEyes, AppDynamics, including agent deployments, optimizations, and tuning.
- Automate deployments to reduce operational tasks and integrate monitoring tools.
- Effectively communicate tool capabilities to stakeholders and assist in training for tool adoption and best practices.
- Contribute to improving the global operating model for monitoring and observability services.
- Continue evolving monitoring tooling towards a self-service automated platform.
Required Skills:
- Experience in defining, creating, and supporting monitoring dashboards.
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability solutions, including server and network performance, hardware, web synthetics, and application performance monitoring.
- Hands-on experience with tools like Splunk, AppDynamics, ThousandEyes, Elasticsearch, Grafana, Prometheus.
- Experience in communicating observability expertise and standards across departments.
- Familiarity with distributed service design and autonomous software design practices.
- Solid understanding of application performance metrics, KPIs, and correlation.
- Extensive experience with metrics, logging libraries, and data visualization tools.
- 2+ years working with APM in mission-critical application deployment.
- Experience identifying performance bottlenecks through monitoring and observability tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to build relationships with stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and multi-task effectively.
Desired Skills/Experience:
- Experience with Splunk, AppDynamics, ThousandEyes.
- Knowledge of REST API and developing Monitoring Extensions.
- Experience in Application Development (Java) at an enterprise level is a plus.
- Familiarity with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP) and AI/ML is desirable.
- Knowledge of DevOps processes, Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban), and tools like Jira, Confluence.
- Understanding of AIOps, Event Management tools, and Operations Automation.
