    Job description

    Online interview

At SmartBear, we deliver the complete visibility developers need to make each release better than the last. Our award-winning and industry favorite tools such as TestComplete, Swagger, ReadyAPI, Zephyr, and Bugsnag are trusted by over 16 million developers, testers, and software engineers at 32,000+ organizations – including world-renowned innovators like Adobe, JetBlue, FedEx, and Microsoft.

Senior Technical Product Manager – Bugsnag

    • This role provides the opportunity to drive the vision and strategy of a high-velocity, growing business, built around established products plus other useful products that you will bring to market.
    • It offers the chance to innovate with a talented and passionate cross-functional team spanning across engineering, design, marketing, and sales.

    Product intro:

We believe developers should have full visibility into the experiences end users have with their applications. So, we build developer visibility tools that provide development teams with all the insights they need into their end users’ experiences with an app. This ensures that developers can find and fix issues as swiftly as possible and provide first-class digital experiences to their customers.

SmartBear’s BugSnag product is a market-leading error and performance monitoring solution that helps development teams understand the general health of their applications through the eyes of users. It identifies issues such as application crashes and errors and then routes the issues (with context) to the developers to triage and fix.

Our observability offering is continuing to expand in scope and capability and we are looking for a talented technical product manager to help drive these efforts. We have an amazing customer base and you will get to work with the best in the business at companies like Netflix, Lyft, Amazon, Shopify & Tinder.

    About the role:

As a Senior Technical Product Manager you will be responsible for strategic planning, product life-cycle management, and execution for complex software observability products. Successful candidates tend to be technology enthusiasts, strategic, entrepreneurial in spirit, hands-on, research-savvy and analytically-driven, with proven experience operating in a software business.

    • Deeply engaged in SDK direction: You will need to be a technology enthusiast that enjoys downloading the latest frameworks and putting them through their paces. You will be discussing error handling in PHP with one engineer and then exploring the complexities of measuring network requests on Android devices with another.
    • Understand users and their job to be done: You will conduct in-depth market research and lean experiments to understand your customer, the problems they are trying to solve, and the outcomes they expect.
    • Create, maintain and communicate product vision and strategy: You will prioritize customer needs and define an overall product strategy by working closely with key stakeholders in product management, marketing and sales.
    • Drive product roadmap: You will translate customer needs into product capabilities through backlog grooming, rigorous prioritization, and collaboration with leaders in engineering and UX.
    • Define well-articulated user stories: You will break down complex features and capabilities into bite-sized deliverables with well written user stories, acceptance criteria and occasional mock-ups that the engineering team can work with.
    • Bring product to market: You will work closely with your Product Marketing Managers and Sales Leaders to design go-to-market strategies, identify optimal pricing and packaging approaches and translate all the features you built into market worthy stories.
    • Measure successes and failures: You will define success criteria and measure everything you do - metrics are key!
    • Keep a close eye on business goals: You will work with Product leadership to ensure that we hit key revenue and profit goals on a quarterly basis.

We are looking for you if you have:

    • Current Product Managers with 3+ years of PM experience
    • Development experience with 3+ yrs engaged in platform development (Android, iOS, Ruby, Java, .NET, etc.)
    • Outstanding organizational abilities as well as written and verbal communication skills
    • The ability to think logically, critically, and constructively about complex problems and communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences
    • A laser-like focus on creating value for customers and removing friction for engineering teams
    • Strong understanding of microservice-based architectures
    • Market experience within the Observability / APM space is a big plus
    • The capacity to formulate opinions about how customers will want to engage with certain platforms and be able to discuss those platforms with SMEs
