Database Administrator
This is an exciting role for individuals who seek challenges in an agile, dynamic and fast paced environment. This role provides a great opportunity to have direct impact on how Platform Engineering enables the business team to compete in an ever-changing retail landscape. Our Data platform engineers ensure systems are performing at optimum performance with a proactive hands-on approach to address issues through the application stack before they impact our customers both internally and externally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides first/second level troubleshooting, technical and operational support with limited guidance; escalating when appropriate
- Updates existing documentation for procedures used
- Guides, coaches, and supports other team members with their assignments (e.g., onboarding junior team members)
- Works independently, with limited guidance to automate tasks around system management, deployment and\or monitoring; escalating when appropriate
- Contributes to the delivery of consistent platform level automation solutions as part of mid to large scale platforms level delivery
- Plans, implements and maintains infrastructure per prescribed specifications.
- Executes, coordinates, and plans platform level changes as part of Release Management.
- May lead phases of a project. Escalates delays, issues, risks and highlights to project managers and/or project leads
- Makes recommendations to ensure optimal performance and reliability for enterprise platforms
- Other duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned
- Works independently, with limited guidance, to design environments low to medium complexity; escalating when appropriate
- Provides input into the evaluation of new technologies relative to their domains.
- Provides input into technical design
We are looking for Candidates who:
- Demonstrates emerging proficiency in multiple facets of the designated technology platform and can independently evaluate and resolve most problems
- Possesses solid understanding of the current technology environment and security controls
- Develops understanding & usage of distributed systems, cloud technology, virtualization and security methodologies
- Builds expertise in designated technology platform i.e. Oracle, Sql-Server while also developing knowledge of emerging technologies and adjacent technology platforms.
- Consistently applies Platform Engineering principles and best practices to solutions delivery efforts.
- Independently delivers on multiple aspects of Data Platforms Performance Management monitoring solutions.
- Develops basic understanding of the retail industry
- Possess effective communication skills to share knowledge effectively with other team members and continue to build and begin leveraging internal networks.
- Has ability to build productive networks with internal clients.
Requirements:
- Evident exposure in Data platforms technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server (MySQL, Maria-DB or Eloquence would be nice to have)

5+ years of Database Administration experience primarily for Oracle
- very good command of English (C1 level)
- Experience in managing and configuration of system batch processing
- Deep understanding of system performance and monitoring
- Understanding of containers and container orchestration
- Experience in maintaining and supporting large-scale Databases and their application architectures
- Experience with various data technologies including relational and as desirable non-relational databases and message queues
- Experience with infrastructure configuration and automations processes and tools
- Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive
Nice to have:
- AIX and Windows operating system experience and Unix scripting knowledge
- DevOps principles and common tools
- Exposure to legacy systems using relational database structures
- Experience in one or more of the following: Windows VB Scripting, Oracle, Maria-DB, Couchbase or other non-relational database, Eloquence, Mongo
- Exposure to any of the following: Dynatrace, Icinga2, Puppet, ServiceNow, HPOO or similar automation tool, Stonebranch
