The Brainly Engineering Management Team‘s mission is to maximize the value delivered by Brainly Production Teams by building, leading, and growing a world class group of production engineers through the improvement of production engineering practices, engineer hiring, and partnership with all department leaders at Brainly where production engineers are installed.
The Engineering Manager will be a member of the Engineering Management Department, assigned to the Product Department. You will contribute through in-person/virtual interactions with engineers and Product Managers, through assessment of software engineering practices within the Product Team and across the Product Department as a whole. You will also be co-responsible for Operational Maturity in the engineering practice across the assigned teams in the Product Department, including hiring needs forecasts, assessments, and logistics.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
- Collaborate with team to develop process, policy, protocols, and solutions within the team and company-wide as it relates to work process and SDLC best-practices
- Be co-responsible for engineering-skills needs assessment in the engineering practice across the assigned Product Department
- Be co-responsible for performance review cycles for engineers
- Be co-responsible for upskilling and mentoring programs for engineers
- Be co-responsible for hiring needs forecasts, assessments, and logistics for Engineers within the Product Department
- Work with the Product organization to identify opportunities for Engineering Manager initiatives
- Collaborate with the team to make decisions regarding platform level needs, capabilities, and investments
WHAT WILL YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE?
Experience
- Required
-
5+ years of relevant management / IT / engineering experience
-
2+ years working with engineering teams on a daily basis, with exposure to their organizational, personal and engineering-related problems.
- Hands-on experience with managing engineers and/or engineering teams
- Experience with hiring, recruiting and onboarding software engineers
- Previous accountability/responsibility for the team’s SDLC processes
- Technical background (Software Engineering – related studies, or on-the-job equivalent experience)
- Preferred
- Previous experience as a Scrum Master or Software Engineer would be a plus
- Prior experience managing direct reports
