Senior OpenSearch / Search Engine Expert (SOLR → OpenSearch Migration)

Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior OpenSearch / Search Engine Expert to lead the migration from SOLR to OpenSearch. We are looking for a consultant who understands architectural and behavioral differences between SOLR and OpenSearch, is able to manage the implications of LTR plugins and can design a scalable, stable, and high-performance OpenSearch solution in a production environment.

Responsibilities

• Audit and review of the current OpenSearch PoC.

• Architectural advisory.

• Definition and optimization of index schemas and queries.

• Performance and cost optimization.

• Adaptation and support of the Learning-to-Rank model.

• Support of production migration.

Qualifications

• Expert-level knowledge of Amazon OpenSearch Service.

• Strong hands-on experience with Apache SOLR.

• Proven experience migrating from SOLR to OpenSearch (architecture design, cluster sizing, sharding, partitioning).

• Deep expertise in:

• Index mapping and schema design,

• Query optimization,

• Performance tuning,

• Cluster scaling and cost optimization.

• Production experience with:

• Large-scale indexes,

• High traffic environments (thousands+ RPS).

• Hands-on experience with Learning-to-Rank (LTR) implementations and ranking plugins.

• Strong understanding of behavioral and architectural differences between SOLR and OpenSearch, especially in the context of LTR.

Nice to Have

• E-commerce search experience.
