Software Engineering Manager
ABOUT THE COMPANY
We are a global legal technology company that has been building software for the legal industry for over two decades. Our AI-powered cloud platform is used by leading law firms, Fortune 500 corporations, and government agencies worldwide to organise complex data, surface critical insights, and act on them — across litigation, investigations, regulatory inquiries, and data breach response.
We're valued at $3.6 billion and invest over $170 million annually in R&D. Over 75% of our business has transitioned to our cloud platform, and we are now heavily investing in generative AI capabilities that are reshaping how legal work gets done. We're a scaled company with a startup mentality in the areas that matter — innovation pace, engineering quality, and product ambition.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for a defined set of product areas and platform functions. You'll be the subject matter expert for what your team owns, with full decision-making autonomy over operations and objectives. You'll receive coaching and mentorship from senior leadership while being trusted to run your team independently.
This is a hands-on leadership role — you'll contribute directly to software design and development while leading technical discussions, building team culture, and driving organisational efficiency. The expectation is that you're equally comfortable in a technical architecture conversation as you are in a performance review.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON
Team leadership and performance
Lead, develop, and retain a high-performing team of software engineers. Manage workload allocation, hiring, performance evaluation, and continuous development opportunities.
Technical leadership
Lead technical discussions alongside technical leads and architects to develop effective solutions. Contribute hands-on to software design, development, and integration across the full stack.
Agile delivery
Oversee a Scrum team and ensure its success through Agile principles and strong leadership. Own the team's delivery cadence and quality bar.
Strategic vision
Develop and communicate a clear strategic vision for your team's domains. Align team objectives with broader organisational goals and implement operational policies that drive process improvement.
Engineering culture
Foster a high-performance, cost-effective engineering culture. Act as a technology evangelist — stay ahead of industry trends and bring relevant thinking back to the team.
Organisational efficiency
Drive efficiency through industry best practices for SaaS product development. Allocate team members' efforts strategically based on organisational needs and priorities.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
2+ years leading software engineering teams
Proven experience managing software engineers — hiring, developing, and retaining strong individual contributors while maintaining high delivery standards.
Distributed systems experience
Hands-on experience building high-scale, high-load distributed systems. You understand the engineering challenges at scale, not just the theory.
Cloud native fluency
Solid experience with cloud native architecture — Azure preferred, though AWS and GCP experience is also valued.
Strong communication skills
Clear and confident verbal, written, and presentation communication. Comfortable engaging with engineers, product stakeholders, and senior leadership alike.
Agile methodology experience
Practical experience running Agile teams — Scrum in particular — with a clear understanding of how process supports rather than slows delivery.
THE TEAM
You'll join a global engineering organisation working on a platform used by some of the world's largest legal teams. The culture is diverse, inclusive, and driven by high standards. Engineers here work on genuinely complex technical problems at scale — and are supported with the coaching, development, and tooling to keep growing.
