Product Designer
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for an expert UI/UX designer with outstanding taste and a bias for shipping to lead every visual and brand aspect of our product — from the core design system down to the last pixel. This is not a "pure artist" role. You'll work in a tight product team, iterate fast, and make hard trade-offs when reality demands it.
You'll own the visual language of a product used by people who care deeply about learning and research. The expectation is high — you define what good looks like, and you hold that bar as the product grows.
WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON
Core product journeys
Own end-to-end design for the most important product experiences — search and discovery, reading, notes, and collaboration. Turn ambiguous problems into clear UX flows, prototypes, and shippable UI.
Design system
Define and evolve the design system — components, variants, states — so the team can move fast without quality regressions as features multiply.
Craft and details
Raise the bar on hierarchy, interaction, motion, and micro-details so the product feels inevitable rather than assembled.
Engineering collaboration
Work in a tight shipping loop with engineering to land high-fidelity designs in production exactly as intended.
User research
Run lightweight user research and rapid validation when it meaningfully reduces risk — not as a process, but as a tool.
Brand coherence
Keep brand and marketing surfaces coherent with the product — visual language, typography, and key visuals.
WHAT WE LOOK FOR
Elite communication
You set expectations accurately and live up to them. No surprises on timelines, scope, or quality.
Deep resilience
Feedback cycles, tight deadlines, tough discussions — you have a large buffer before stress impacts your output.
No ego
Your work gets better through collaboration. We're here to build something great, not to manage insecurities.
Product mastery
You understand what makes great software feel inevitable — clarity, hierarchy, consistency, motion, copy, and details. You've studied the best and can articulate why it works.
Brand instinct
You can define a visual identity that feels premium, coherent, and distinctly ours — and keep it consistent as the product scales.
HCI fascination
Deeply interested in human-computer interaction. Actively exploring AI-native interfaces and new interaction primitives that feel intuitive, not bolted on.
Bonus
Ex-founder experience.
DESIGN STACK
Figma for components, variants, auto-layout, prototyping, and design systems. Brand identity, guidelines, typography, colour, and illustration. Close collaboration with engineering for production handoff. Lightweight user research and validation. The stack isn't fixed — outcomes matter more than tools.
DESIGN CULTURE
Radical ownership
You own the visual language and the bar. You decide what good looks like — and you're accountable for it.
Ruthless simplicity
We delete, simplify, and reduce. Every element must earn its place.
Fast iteration
Polished does not mean slow. We prototype, test, and refine quickly.
Direct feedback
Feedback is blunt, concise, and respectful. No politics.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS
Recruiter screening — a short intro call.
1-on-1 with the founder — a conversation about how you think and design.
Design challenge (~2 hours) — onboard to the product, review what's working and what isn't, record a Loom and send it over.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary
$90,000 – $120,000 depending on experience.
Equity and profit share
Core team members receive both equity and profit share as part of the compensation package.
Unlimited PTO
Use your own judgement — we won't count days.
Real ownership
No managers capping your authority. You own your work end-to-end, with the full trust of the team behind you.
