Job description

Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Staff Software Engineer for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Europe. Our client is a health insurance company that uses advanced technology to better serve its members. They focus on making health insurance easier through telemedicine, user-friendly technology, and clear claim pricing. This approach helps patients navigate their healthcare more easily.

A Staff Engineer will join the distributed team, leading the design and development of enhancements to the next-generation claims and payment processing system. You will work on a broad problem space spanning contract and pricing configuration, system extensibility through the internally developed DSL, and data pipeline architecture and efficiency. Also, you'll selectively apply AI to solve complex problems, automating and improving processes that were previously tedious and error prone. The focus will be on building scalable and reliable systems that ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our claims and payment processes. Reporting is to the Director of Software Engineering.

The project also involves a general on-call rotation lasting a week, which occurs every 5-6 weeks for each team member. Most pages occur during working hours. There could be a few off-hours pages that can be worked on the next working day, with one page per off-hours rotation requiring attention, usually via Slack messages.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering.

  • 5+ years of experience as a leader of cross-pod or cross-company deliverables.

  • 5+ years of experience leading technical contributions, improving the quality of what your teams create.

  • 5+ years of experience with practical application of CS concepts within their team.

  • 5+ years of experience setting and enforcing the standard for writing stable, correct, and maintainable code.

  • 5+ years of experience leading technical teams, including mentoring and training more junior engineers.

  • Understanding supporting libraries and writing in Python, and ideally also in Golang (if no Golang, desire to learn on the project).

  • Expertise in owning observability stack tooling, e.g., Grafana, BigQuery, and Kubernetes.

  • Experience working in data and engineering tooling, e.g., discovery libraries, data replication, data transfer tools, authentication, and authorization libraries.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on business and technical domains.

  • Lead the planning, execution, and release of complex technical projects across multiple teams, including owning medium to large features or infrastructure projects from technical design through completion.

  • Work with partners, product managers, and designers to solve challenging problems.

  • Lead and mentor engineers and engineering teams to improve technology, apply best practices, and set overall team direction.

  • Take responsibility for ensuring the team's delivery of large or complex technology capabilities (a set of components or services) within their team's domain or spanning multiple domains.

  • Facilitate, encourage, and enhance a culture of collaboration within the engineering team and its internal customers, recognizing when cross-team projects are at risk and actively mitigating risk to deliver on time.

  • Contribute to the objectives of their functional group, and play a key role in driving outcomes for organization-wide projects.

  • Work with leadership to assign priorities to the technical roadmap and, within their area and across related areas, to influence the prioritization of the product roadmap and process enhancements.

  • Actively identify and reduce failure domains while working with their team to do the same.

  • Builds software to minimize effort and business impact during maintenance and failures.

  • Guide the development of Service-Level Objectives (SLOs) for systems they and their team are responsible for.

  • Follow compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Take responsibility for other duties as assigned.

We offer:

  • US and EU projects based on advanced technologies.

  • Competitive compensation based on skills and experience.

  • Regular performance appraisals to support your growth.

  • Flexibility in workspace, either remote or our welcoming office.

  • Bonuses for article writing, public talks, and other activities.

  • Generous time off, including vacation, national holidays, sick leaves, and family days.

  • Personalized learning programs tailored to your interests and skill development.

  • Free tech webinars and meetups organized by Svitla.

  • Regular corporate online activities.

  • Awesome team and a friendly, supportive community!
