Ciena Field Engineer Installation Technician

Job Summary:The Ciena Field Engineer Installation Technician is responsible for the professional installation, testing, and maintenance of Ciena network devices and associated equipment. This role requires hands-on expertise in rack installations, power and grounding procedures, optical cable handling, and field measurements, providing on-site technical support to ensure network deployments meet quality standards and project timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Perform physical installation of Ciena devices into racks according to project specifications and manufacturer guidelines.

·       Execute power cabling tasks including AC and DC connections, ensuring proper grounding for each device to maintain safety and system stability.

·       Inspect optical cables using optical scopes to verify integrity and cleanliness; perform cleaning procedures to remove contaminants.

·       Measure optical signal power levels with appropriate optical power meters to confirm signal strength meets required parameters.

·       Accurately label all cables and devices according to project and company standards for clear identification and future maintenance.

·       Conduct OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) measurements to analyze fiber optic network quality and locate faults or losses.

·       Provide smart, proactive on-site technical support to remote engineers by troubleshooting installation-related issues and ensuring smooth deployment.

·       Manage logistics relating to unused materials, ensuring proper documentation, storage, or return in line with project requirements.

·       Liaise regularly with Project Managers, Commissioning teams, and support technicians to coordinate tasks, report progress, and resolve issues effectively.

·       Maintain detailed installation and testing reports to document work performed, observations, and compliance with technical standards.

·       Travel extensively across Western Europe to project sites, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to project success.

Qualifications and Skills:

·       Proven experience in telecommunications or network equipment installation, ideally with Ciena systems or similar optical network technologies.

·       Strong knowledge of rack mounting procedures, power cabling (AC/DC), grounding practices, and optical fiber handling.

·       Proficient in using optical inspection scopes, power meters, and OTDR equipment for fiber optic testing.

·       Detail-oriented with excellent cable labeling and documentation skills.

·       Ability to provide remote support and collaborate effectively with engineering teams.

·       Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, to engage with multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders.

·       Willingness to travel frequently across Western Europe, sometimes on short notice.

·       Good organizational skills, dependable with a problem-solving mindset.

·       Relevant technical certifications or training in fiber optics and telecommunications installation is a plus.
