System Architect with Ruby/Rails

Search Dates is a popular dating site that's grown to millions of users. Our team is distributed globally. We get the work done but don’t take ourselves too seriously. We’re currently looking for another system architect to help make and execute architecture decisions that will set path for our technology in coming years. The role is a mixture of planning and coding - a 30/70 split between planning and practice.

Responsibilities:

• Regular meetings with other architects and other members, figuring out best solutions and direction for further product development
• Hands on work on our backend architecture and implementation of those solutions
• Close cooperation with sysops team 
• Performance monitoring and improvements for a user facing product, handling tens of millions of requests daily 
• Close cooperation with frontend and QA team

Requirements:

• Fluent spoken and written English
• Previous experience in systems architecture 
• At least close to 10 years professional experience as backend engineer
• At least 5 years of that in Ruby and RoR
• Deep understanding of relational databases (mysql and postgres) 
• Experience in splitting up monoliths 
• Messaging system(s) experience 
• Experience with other programming languages 
• Experience working with larger codebases, both monoliths and soa 
• Good approach to dev - sysops cooperation
• Good approach to dev - data teams cooperation 

Nice to have:

• Frontend technologies experience
