IT Operations Specialist
QED (https://qed.ai) is a tech company focused on public health and food security in Sub-Saharan Africa. We build the digital infrastructure and AI used at the intersection of aid and scientific inquiry, including surveillance of HIV and malaria, and nutrient analysis of crops and soils. Our work happens at a national scale, and our funding comes from partners like the Gates Foundation, CDC, and USAID.
As we scale, we are looking for a highly trusted IT Operations Specialist to join our Warsaw team.
The Role
In this role, you’ll be responsible for the lifecycle of the hardware that powers our development and field operations across the globe. You will also be responsible for managing digital access internally, as well as externally. We are looking for a versatile professional with a background that spans both hardware and software administration.
Your core responsibilities will include:
Global procurement and logistics: Sourcing, configuring, and distributing laptops (Windows/Linux) and mobile devices for our staff in Poland and across our African offices.
Keeping track of the inventory: Knowing exactly where every piece of QED equipment is, what condition it’s in, and what happens the moment it breaks.
Security enforcement: Auditing and enforcing our personal computer security policy (FDE, handling of secrets).
Access Control: Handling onboarding, offboarding, and access to our internal platforms.
Android MDM: Managing our custom Mobile Device Management (MDM) service, built on the Android Management API. You will handle the procurement and logistics of devices used in the public health projects in the field. While this is an IT Operations role, the ability to read, write, and maintain the code of our custom MDM platform would be a big bonus.
Requirements:
High level of trust: You will have access to the most sensitive layers of our operation. Absolute integrity is non-negotiable.
Experience with IT administration: We require at least 4 years of industry experience. We expect a proactive, opinionated approach. You should have a clear vision and knowledge of modern tooling and the ability to establish robust conventions for access management and security.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in core technologies, including Git for version control, scripting and networking fundamentals.
Versatility: Comfort managing a fleet of Windows, Linux, and Android devices.
Language: Working proficiency (≥C1) in English.
Bonus: server infrastructure and willingness to travel
Our core medical services run on custom Kubernetes clusters hosted across a mix of VM providers and bare‑metal servers in Sub-Saharan Africa and beyond, and we are rapidly expanding to new countries. While not a core requirement, technical expertise to physically install, cable, and configure server racks on-site is a big plus. If you have an adventurous soul and a willingness to travel to our African offices to manage these hardware deployments firsthand, it would be an additional advantage (this added commitment would also come with higher pay).
