As an Engineering Manager, you will be providing a team of engineers and testers with the guidance and leadership they need to meet the schedule and product roadmap of the Precisely Data Team. It will be your responsibility to plan, organize and lead the team daily, helping it to stay focused on the tasks ahead while simultaneously ensuring that technology decisions are thoughtfully made and implementable.
The technology team at Precisely leverages Amazon Web Services as its primary processing infrastructure. Within that framework most of the work leverages a combination of massive Elastic Search databases for document and object storage as well as PostGRES Relational Database Service (RDS) instances for more fine-tuned processing. All access and processing is accomplished using proprietary restful APIs and Java/Kotlin SDKs. In this role, you will be expected to fully understand the technology being used as well as capable of reviewing the work of engineers to ensure all software meets the coding and documentation standards of the company. As this is a technical position, some software development consisting of less than 20% of your time will be expected.
You will:
- Daily management of a team of professional software and quality engineers.
- Ensure the team is following an established framework for process and development. At Precisely, our teams use Scrum.
- Manage project backlogs and ensure work tickets are being properly prioritized and worked.
- Ensure that regular stakeholder reviews (or sprint reviews) are performed and that all project progress is transparent and clearly reported on.
- Participate actively in design discussions, bringing his/her perspective to product and software design.
- Recommend technologies to solve problems and ensure they are a right fit.
- Take a “get it done right” approach that combines fast proof of concepts and long-term planning.
- Work closely with others in the Data team ensuring the highest degree of communication.
- Manage hardware, software, and personnel expenses to keep them in line with departmental budgets.
You have:
- 4+ years of experience in software engineering.
- 2+ years of experience in team and/or project management.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse team.
- Strong communication skills, including speaking and writing fluently in English.
- Experience with AWS tools, including S3, EC2 instances, load balancers, etc.
- Experience with GitLab Lifecyle tools.
- Experience with IntelliJ IDE for software development.
- Knowledge of relational database design and query languages (SQL)
- Must be hardworking, team-oriented, creative, cooperative, and an exceptional problem solver.
