Service Engineer – Vertex Tax System Production Support

We are seeking a highly skilled Service Engineer to support and maintain our Vertex tax management systems and their integration with ERP platforms such as Oracle Fusion. This role combines tax domain expertise with technical troubleshooting capabilities to ensure accurate tax calculations, compliance, and seamless system performance across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

Functional Support

• Apply deep knowledge of Indirect Taxation including Sales & Use Tax, VAT, GST, and Withholding Tax across global jurisdictions.

• Maintain and troubleshoot Vertex Tax Calculation Rules, Tax Jurisdictions, and Product Taxability Assignments.

• Support and optimize ERP integrations with Vertex, including Oracle Fusion and internal systems.

• Ensure accuracy of tax rates, exemptions, and tax determinations.

• Manage Tax Configuration, Tax Categories, and Exemption Certificates within Vertex.

• Generate and support Tax Reporting for compliance and audit purposes.

• Handle Tax Accruals and Reconciliations to ensure alignment with the General Ledger.

• Analyze and prioritize support tickets, providing timely and effective resolutions.

• Document troubleshooting steps and contribute to the internal knowledge base.

• Support system upgrades, patches, and performance enhancements.

Technical Operations

• Perform SQL-based data analysis across ERP and Vertex databases to validate tax calculations and reconcile transactions.

• Troubleshoot integration issues between ERP and Vertex, including tax calculation errors, missing rates, and incorrect invoice postings.

• Maintain and optimize API data feeds, including REST/SOAP integrations between Vertex and ERP systems.

• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in tax data processing and batch jobs.

• Utilize FBDI and ADFdi tools for importing and updating tax rates, transactions, and exemption certificates in Oracle Fusion.

• Support tax reporting for compliance, including VAT/GST returns, Sales & Use Tax, Withholding Tax, and 1099/1042 forms.

• Assist with SOX audits, ensuring proper documentation, controls, and approvals for tax-related processes.

• Reconcile tax liabilities across Vertex, ERP tax subledgers, and General Ledger.

• Prepare and validate audit-ready tax reports for internal and external audits.

• Ensure compliance with Vertex Tax Engine updates, including new tax rates and regulatory changes.

Operational Support

• Use the Vertex Support Portal (MyVertex) to resolve issues and access documentation.

• Create, manage, and track support tickets and service requests.

• Review and apply Vertex release notes, patches, and knowledge base articles.

• Test tax rate updates and coordinate regression testing for ERP and Vertex quarterly releases.

• Collaborate with accounting, tax, and finance teams to resolve Vertex-related issues.

• Document best practices and troubleshooting procedures for tax processing.

  
  

Required Qualifications

• Strong understanding of indirect taxation (Sales & Use Tax, VAT, GST, Withholding Tax).

• 5+ years of experience with Vertex tax systems and ERP integrations.

• Expertise in tax calculation rules, jurisdictions, and product taxability assignments.

• Proficiency in SQL and data analysis techniques.

• Experience troubleshooting API integrations and managing data feeds.

• Solid understanding of tax compliance reporting requirements.

• Familiarity with SOX audit standards for tax processes.

• Experience using FBDI and ADFdi for data imports and updates.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for complex tax issues.
