Data Scientist – Sports Analytics and Performance Intelligence (NBA)
At Madiff, we connect top IT talent with cutting-edge companies through remote Agile teams and nearshore outsourcing. With operations in Poland, Portugal, France, and the UK, we specialize in AI, DevOps, and Cybersecurity – supporting industries like Telecom, Banking, and Hi-Tech.
Are you excited by applying machine learning to elite-level sports performance? Do you want your models to directly support coaching decisions, player evaluation, and injury risk management in professional basketball organisations – including NBA teams?
We’re hiring a Data Scientist – Sports Analytics and Performance Intelligence (NBA) to join a programme building a next-generation sports analytics platform used in real analytical workflows.
The platform combines large-scale historical and real-time performance data, player tracking data, medical and workload indicators, and scouting information. Machine learning models are integrated with GenAI orchestration layers to generate insights, explanations, and decision support for coaching staff, analysts, medical teams, and front office stakeholders.
Key responsibilities:
Develop machine learning models supporting player performance analysis and optimisation.
Analyse time-series and event-based sports data.
Engineer features from tracking, performance, workload, and contextual datasets.
Validate, monitor, and improve models in production environments.
Expose model outputs to analytical dashboards and downstream systems.
Integrate model outputs into LangChain and LangGraph-based workflows supporting insight generation and scenario exploration.
Collaborate closely with sports analysts and domain experts to refine use cases and ensure practical impact.
Ensure models are interpretable, robust, and aligned with real decision-making needs.
What we are looking for:
Strong experience as a Data Scientist working with machine learning models in production or applied environments.
Very good Python skills and hands-on experience with pandas and NumPy.
Practical experience with scikit-learn and feature engineering techniques.
Experience with time-series modelling and event-based data analysis.
Strong SQL skills and experience working with large-scale or high-frequency datasets.
Understanding of model validation, monitoring, and performance optimisation.
Familiarity with LangChain and LangGraph for orchestration of analytical outputs.
Basic familiarity with GenAI-driven insight generation.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with analysts and domain experts.
Fluent English (project language).
Availability to work in standard Polish business hours.
What we offer:
Opportunity to work on cutting-edge sports analytics solutions used by professional basketball organisations, including NBA teams.
Direct impact on player performance optimisation, game strategy, and talent evaluation.
Modern analytics ecosystem combining machine learning and GenAI-based reasoning workflows.
Cross-functional collaboration in a focused product squad (6–8 people) with strong ownership over models and real-world impact.
Agile ways of working and space to shape analytical direction and solution design.
Recruitment process:
Initial screening call with Madiff.
Technical interview focused on data analysis and modelling.
Client interview covering project fit and collaboration.
Final decision within 5 days maximum from the first interview.
