Senior Data Engineer (Trino Focus)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer with strong expertise in data virtualization and hands-on experience with Starburst Trino / Apache Trino. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining scalable data solutions, ensuring high performance of distributed queries, and enabling secure, efficient data access across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimize data pipelines with a strong focus on Trino (Starburst / Apache).

• Install, configure, and tune Trino clusters for performance and scalability.

• Develop and support data virtualization solutions across cloud and hybrid environments.

• Monitor and troubleshoot distributed query performance and system reliability.

• Ensure data security and compliance leveraging LDAP, Apache Ranger or similar.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver efficient, secure, and reusable data solutions.

• Apply data engineering best practices, including versioning, release management, and deployment automation.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong proficiency in Trino (Starburst or Apache) – installation, configuration, tuning.

• Cloud platform knowledge (AWS) – designing and deploying scalable data environments.

• Hands-on experience in monitoring and troubleshooting distributed queries.

• Solid understanding of security frameworks (LDAP, Ranger, etc.).

• Proficiency in Python, SQL, Bash, Node.js, Linux/Unix shell scripting.

• Experience with data engineering practices and tooling: GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and customer focus.

Nice to Have

• Experience with other data virtualization tools.

• Exposure to multi-cloud or hybrid cloud environments.

• Knowledge of BI / Analytics platforms integration with Trino.
