Expert IT Architect (Kafka)

Salary: 1100 - 1350 PLN/day on B2B

Work model: hybrid from Gdańsk (at least 2 days per week from the office)

Project

You will join a strategic initiative within the Payments Processing domain, focused on improving the performance of the PIP payments processing pipeline ahead of the SEK Batch go-live. The project involves redesigning and optimizing several critical microservices to significantly increase processing speed and reduce latency.

The target is to achieve high-throughput, low-latency transaction processing at the level of 15–30k TPS, with scalability up to 50k TPS, while operating in a complex environment that combines event-driven microservices, data-intensive processing, and legacy systems. The solution must meet strict security, GDPR, and PCI compliance requirements typical for large-scale banking systems and international organizations.

Responsibilities you'll have

• Designing and leading solution architecture for high-throughput, low-latency payment systems
• Redesigning microservices to meet demanding performance and scalability targets
• Defining and optimizing Kafka-based, event-driven architectures
• Providing architectural guidance and technical leadership to development teams
• Reviewing solutions with a strong focus on performance, resilience, and scalability
• Supporting integration with legacy and mainframe-based systems

Expected competences and knowledge

• Strong experience in solution architecting for large-scale, high-throughput systems (min. 5 years)
• Proven expertise in building low-latency architectures handling 15–50k TPS
• Deep knowledge of Apache Kafka and event-driven systems
• Java knowledge (on a level that allows communication with development teams) and Python skills for data processing and scripting 
• Strong understanding of distributed systems and data-intensive architectures
• Experience in banking, payments, or transaction processing environments
• General knowledge of IBM Mainframe and legacy banking systems (nice to have)
• Experience with card transactions and payment processing platforms (nice to have)
