Project

The project focuses on providing dedicated database support for the Group Financial Crime Prevention (GFCP) team. It involves managing and optimizing PostgreSQL databases to ensure high availability, performance, and security. Key responsibilities include database installation, configuration, upgrades, performance tuning, backup and recovery management, and security implementation. The role also emphasizes automation through scripting and CI/CD integration, as well as proactive operational support. Collaboration with development, DevOps, and infrastructure teams is crucial to meet the organization's data management needs in combating financial crime.

Key responsibilities 

1. Database Management

• Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases on Linux and Windows environments
• Perform database upgrades, patches, and migrations
• Ensure high availability and disaster recovery configurations are in place and tested

2. Performance Tuning:

• Monitor database performance using tools and custom scripts
• Analyze and resolve database bottlenecks and provide recommendations for query optimization and schema design improvements.

3. Backup and Recovery:

• Manage back up and recovery strategies.
• Ensure RPO (Recovery Point Objective) and RTO (Recovery Time Objective) compliance through rigorous testing.

4. Security Management:

• Implement and maintain database security, encryption, and auditing.
• Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and remediate findings.

5. Automation and Scripting:

• Develop scripts for automating routine using Bash, Python, or equivalent.
• Enhance operational efficiency through CI/CD pipeline integration for database changes.

6. Operational Support:

• Proactively monitor the health and performance of database systems, identifying and addressing issues before they impact users.
• Document operational procedures, standards, and best practices.

7. Collaboration:

• Work closely with development, DevOps and Infra Ops teams to support database-related needs.

Expected competences and knowledge

• Experience: 7+ years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, including hands-on operational expertise in managing production databases
• Proven experience in managing large-scale PostgreSQL environments with replication, clustering, or partitioning
• Deep understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, extensions and tools
• Expertise in SQL query optimization and debugging
• Strong knowledge of Linux environments, including shell scripting and system-level troubleshooting
• Familiarity with monitoring tools like Grafana, or pgAdmin
• PostgreSQL certifications such as PostgreSQL CE or equivalent
