As a Junior Data Engineer with SQL, you will be working for our client, a prominent retail company specializing in home furnishings and decor. The client is undertaking a significant project focused on enhancing their data infrastructure and reporting capabilities. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting their data initiatives, particularly by leveraging your SQL and Excel expertise to extract, transform, and analyze data. This position offers a unique opportunity for growth and development within the dynamic field of data engineering, allowing you to contribute to meaningful data-driven decisions that impact the company's operations and strategic direction. You will also assist in streamlining some current data processes, taking on tasks that support other teams.
Your main responsibilities:

Create complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis

Develop and maintain advanced Excel spreadsheets, including those with macros and VBA

Assist in the design and implementation of data models for reporting

Support the integration of data from various sources into the data warehouse

Collaborate with other teams to understand data requirements and deliver solutions

Identify and resolve data quality issues

Contribute to the continuous improvement of data processes

Learn and apply new data engineering tools and technologies
You're ideal for this role if you have:

Excellent knowledge of Excel, with macros and VBA being a strong asset

Strong SQL skills focused on data analysis, including the ability to create queries for extraction, transformation, and analysis (SELECT, JOIN, GROUP BY, CTE, subqueries)

Familiarity with relational databases, understanding data structures, table relationships, primary, and foreign keys

Knowledge of data warehousing concepts, including star schema, facts, dimensions, and data modeling basics for reporting

A keen interest in data engineering and a desire for further development in this area

Basic knowledge of ETL tools (e.g., SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Airflow or similar)

Foundational Python skills for working with flat files (e.g., CSV, Excel, JSON, Parquet)

Experience with any cloud platform
