We’re seeking a Data Engineer to join our team and lead data infrastructure development for a well-funded healthtech startup building a wearable-driven platform. You’ll design, implement, and scale the cloud data systems powering continuous health analytics for up to one million active users.
About the Project
You’ll build and maintain data pipelines and real-time processing systems that collect and analyze wearable and mobile health data at scale. The goal is to deliver secure, compliant, and performant data infrastructure that supports clinicians, caregivers, and researchers with actionable insights, while maintaining full compliance with HIPAA and GDPR standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement scalable, cloud-based data infrastructure across AWS and Google Cloud;
Build and manage data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and storage of IoT and mobile health data;
Develop and maintain data warehouses and hybrid architectures ensuring performance and portability;
Implement real-time and batch data processing frameworks for continuous event-driven workflows;
Integrate with healthcare data systems (EHRs, FHIR, HL7, DICOM) and manage consent-based data sharing;
Ensure encryption, governance, and anonymization compliance with HIPAA/GDPR;
Build and monitor real-time health alerting systems and event detection logic;
Collaborate with software, UI, and data science teams to ensure smooth data flow and system performance;
Optimize data storage for cost efficiency, reliability, and speed under high-load conditions;
Develop simulation tools for system stress-testing and scalability validation.
Qualifications:
4+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a related infrastructure role;
Proven experience with AWS and Google Cloud data ecosystems (S3, BigQuery, Redshift, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, etc.);
Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with ETL/ELT pipeline development expertise;
Hands-on experience with orchestration tools like Airflow or Astronomer;
Solid understanding of streaming and message-based architectures (Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub);
Experience with Apache Spark or similar big data frameworks;
Familiarity with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7, DICOM) and EHR integrations;
Strong grasp of data privacy, governance, and compliance (HIPAA/GDPR);
Knowledge of Terraform, Kubernetes, or CloudFormation is a plus;
Excellent communication skills in English (B2–C1) and a collaborative mindset.
