    We are a global function of over 2,500 people, and are part of the wider CTO organisation. We serve all of HSBC and its customers.

    We work in partnership with the Infrastructure Architecture Function to set the vision and roadmap for all technologies across CTO and to deliver service designs in support of business IT programmes. 

    We are supporting a critical infrastructure in the payments and security services sector. Therefore, we are working in daytime shifts from 7 AM until 7 PM to serve our customers from start to finish of the business day and cover overnight on calls to ensure end of day and overnight processes are running safely.

    Additionally, maintenance and changes over the weekend are part of the job.


    We are seeking an experienced IBM Db2 for z/OS Senior Administrator. 


    In this role, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining databases on z/OS system, with additional support for application teams including investigating, analysing, and resolving database issues. You will work closely with other IT departments to ensure that our Db2 databases meet the requirements for availability, security, and performance.


    What you’ll do


    • Create, manage and maintain IBM Db2 for z/OS databases.
    • Ensure high availability and performance, investigate, analyse and resolve database issues.
    • Plan and execute database object reorganization, on-demand backups and restores.
    • Perform capacity planning and scalability to accommodate growth.
    • Support z/OS System Programmers during Db2 Maintenance package MSS implementation, and migration to Db2 13.
    • Integrate global HSBC solutions into existing IBM z/OS environments.
    • Offer technical support to internal teams and users.
    • Ensure compliance with security policies and regulatory requirements, create and maintain system and Db2 documentation, support and train Db2 teammates in Db2 for z/OS solutions and best practices, take part in the team’s on-call to provide support outside regular working hours. 


    What you need to have to succeed in this role


    • Extensive knowledge of Db2 for z/OS database design on latest standards, extensive knowledge of Db2 for z/OS utilities on latest standards, experience with diagnose and resolve common issues in DB2 environments.
    • Extensive knowledge of SQL.
    • Experience with bind procedures and plan management.
    • Experience with backup and recovery procedures including system level backup and restore.
    • Experience with performance and tuning of SQL, including generating and analysing explain output, definition of optimization hints.
    • Experience with access permissions and privileges to the databases.
    • Extensive knowledge of JCL, knowledge of REXX and IWS (IBM Workload Scheduler).
    • Knowledge of Db2 for z/OS migrations, function levels.


    Nice to have

    • Extensive knowledge of CA/Broadcom DB2 products (RC/QUERY, RC MIGRATOR etc.).
    • Knowledge of the Db2 for z/OS ZPARMS.
    • Knowledge of Mainview for Db2.
    • Knowledge of Endevor.
    • Analytical and solution-oriented approach to work. 
    • High level of responsibility and reliability. 
    • Being pro-active, team player, able to train junior staff members.
