Global Cybersecurity is responsible for enabling businesses and functions to manage their information, technology, and Cybersecurity risks by ensuring these are well-understood, and that controls used the manage such events are defined, assessed, and implemented appropriately. Cybersecurity predominantly delivers this via objective, independent, professional, and specialized subject matter experts. The role forms part of the first line of defence in relation to the risk management framework.
The Cybersecurity Assessment and Testing (CSAT) function, part of Global Cybersecurity, is accountable for Vulnerability Management, Secure Development (inc. DevSecOps), Threat and Controls Assessment (inc. threat modelling) and Third-Party Security Assessment. The function drives the identification, capture, assessment, testing/verification and ultimately the remediation of security defects, gaps, and vulnerabilities across HSBC’s estate in conjunction with business and technology teams – on-premises, within the Cloud and for those resulting from third party engagements.
You will work in a team that designs, implements, and maintains the infrastructure on which vulnerability management and discovery systems operate. Some of the systems are from external vendors, some are developed internally.
The team supports a mixed environment of traditional on-premises resources (RHEL, Windows) and cloud-based tools and products (GKE, CloudSQL, EC2).
Our job is to design resilient and self-healing environments so that we don’t need to worry about them outside of business hours, and to reduce toil by automating repetitive tasks so we don’t get bored.
What you’ll do
- DevOps delivery, including the buildout and maintenance of environments to support internal projects.
- Build and maintain large scale systems both on-premises and cloud based.
- Automate workflows and processes, especially those related to keeping systems compliant and up to date.
- Implement observability, including the design and implementation of logging, monitoring, and alerting to support incident management and prevent user impact, as well as tracking and managing capacity and user experience.
- Operational management including root cause analysis for major or repeat incidents and management of service delivery, troubleshooting complex issues and building root cause remediation plans.
- Collaborate with stakeholders at various levels across Cybersecurity and IT teams to develops and maintain solutions that protect HSBC.
- Investigate and deliver innovation within the Cybersecurity team for both BAU and strategic projects.
- Assist with the training, development and mentoring of colleagues within the Cybersecurity DevOps community. Prepare documentation and keep it up to date.
What you need to have to succeed in this role
- Cloud platforms knowledge. GCP experience is required, AWS, Azure, and Ali Cloud are optional.
- Experience designing and implementing solutions in public cloud environments, using typical cloud products and solutions, such as cloud hosted databases, storage, compute instances.
- Experience with managed Kubernetes implementations such as GKE.
- Knowledge of IP networking and network security: network protocols, routing / subnetting, firewalls and proxies.
- Knowledge of Linux - RHEL experience is preferred, but any other major Linux distribution is acceptable; it will be nice if you have some Windows Server experience.
- Experience designing and building out traditional on-premises systems, will know how to manage system state, apply updates, manage logs, disks (LVM), write scripts (bash), troubleshoot problems with the infrastructure and help troubleshoot the applications.
- Experience with Infrastructure and Configuration as Code with tools such as Terraform, Helm, Ansible and Puppet.
- Experience in using CI/CD tools such as Jenkins to make things happen.
- Experience in capturing traditional metrics with tools like Application Dynamics and with observability tools such as Splunk and processing and interpreting the captured data and trigger actions based on resource usage and application state.
