System Engineer

Your new role

A PON System Engineer at an advanced mid-level, capable of independently handling administration tasks within xPON environments for telecom operators or ISPs, as well as executing project-related activities. The position requires strong understanding of the active (system-level) aspects of FTTH technology combined with hands-on experience in operational maintenance and configuration work. The engineer must be proficient in diagnosing faults and resolving issues within PON networks.

What you'll need to succeed

Professional Experience

• Minimum 2–3 years of experience administering xPON systems or participating in PON network expansion/migration projects.

• Experience performing engineering tasks related to network reconfiguration and capacity upgrades.

• Knowledge of service provisioning processes in PON networks.

• Ability to analyze incidents and independently resolve a portion of incoming tickets.

• Understanding of how configuration changes impact delivered services.

Technical Competencies

• Ability to configure OLT platforms via both GUI and CLI; experience with CPE/ONT provisioning.

• Practical knowledge of TCP/IP, SNMP, service-port, and access network configuration.

• Hands-on experience with VLAN, QinQ, multicast (IPTV).

• Experience handling technical support tickets from both operator-level and end-user perspectives.

• Strong diagnostic skills in PON and IP networks; familiarity with systems such as ServiceNow, JIRA, Remedy.

• Experience performing project tasks such as adding new configurations, OLT reconfiguration, and access network/VLAN adjustments.

• Ability to analyze system logs, alarms, event histories, and use diagnostic tools ranging from basic IP utilities to advanced tools like Wireshark.

• Knowledge of NMS platforms (e.g., Altiplano, NCE, or similar).

Soft Skills

• High level of independence in executing engineering tasks within operator or ISP environments.

• Effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, including vendor technical support and Service Desk teams.

• Ability to collaborate directly with the client’s engineering teams during project execution.

• Strong ownership mindset when working with SLA-driven tickets

Education & Certifications

• Higher education in telecommunications, ICT systems and networks, or IT/system administration.

• Nice-to-have: networking certifications such as Cisco CCNA, Huawei HCIA Datacom, or equivalent.

• English proficiency at B1/B2, enabling independent communication with vendor technical personnel via ticketing systems and direct conversations.
