MySQL Engineer
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated MySQL Engineer to oversee the stability, performance, and security of MySQL databases across production and non-production environments. The ideal candidate will collaborate with teams, handle L2-level tasks, and contribute to various database management and optimization initiatives.
The role follows regular business hours. Weekend on-call support may be required. On-call duty typically occurs once per month, with a maximum of two occurrences per month.
Responsibilities
Monitor MySQL database performance, replication health, uptime, and resource utilization
Troubleshoot L2-level incidents, resolve alerts, and escalate critical issues when required
Manage user accounts, privileges, roles, and ensure audit compliance
Support installation, configuration, database creation, and environment setup
Perform routine backups, validate restore processes, and assist in DR activities
Work with developers to create/modify tables, indexes, stored procedures, and views
Analyze slow queries using EXPLAIN, slow query logs, and basic tuning techniques
Maintain documentation, including SOPs, runbooks, and configuration details
Assist with deployments, code releases, and schema changes
Participate in automation and process improvement initiatives
Provide 24×7 rotational support as required
Requirements
2+ years of hands-on experience as a MySQL DBA
Good understanding of MySQL architecture, InnoDB engine, transaction logs, and buffer pools
Experience with backups and restore (mysqldump, mysqlpump, Percona XtraBackup)
Basic understanding of replication (asynchronous/semisynchronous GTID-based)
Strong SQL knowledge and query optimization fundamentals
Linux administration familiarity (systemd, file systems, CPU/memory checks)
Basic knowledge of at least one additional RDBMS: Oracle, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB
Strong problem-solving and communication skills
B2 level of English or higher, with an emphasis on technical communication skills
Nice to have
Exposure to MySQL High Availability solutions (Group Replication, InnoDB Cluster, Percona Cluster)
Experience with partitioning, sharding concepts, and data lifecycle management
Familiarity with cloud-hosted MySQL services (AWS RDS, Amazon Aurora MySQL, Azure MySQL, GCP)
Scripting experience (Shell, Python, or Ansible)
Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Percona Monitoring & Management – PMM)
