Senior System Support Engineer for Data Science Platforms

What’s in it for you?

We are looking for a new remote Senior System Engineer as part of our agile Computational Scientific Platforms team. This department is responsible for developing, implementing, operating, maintaining, and supporting the data, middleware, and IT infrastructure used across our R&ED units, both on-premises and in the cloud. You will work within a scrum team, collaborating closely with scientists, data scientists, and IT vendors, necessitating a pro-active approach along with excellent communication and collaboration skills.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Providing comprehensive support for the infrastructural environment, both on-premises and in the cloud.

• Engaging with users to understand their needs, guiding and providing tailored support to enhance their productivity, including writing documentation.

• Channeling user feedback to agile team user stories and feature definitions to help maintain and improve the platform and solutions.

• Assisting in improving the platform by focusing on automation to create efficient processes.

• Sharing knowledge and working together with the team to share learnings and experiences.

• Testing and bug fixing.

• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions and resolve issues.

• Working on root cause analysis to resolve technical issues promptly.

• Working on governance and security together with System Manager.

Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate who is ready for a purposeful career and has a passion for supporting advanced scientific computing and analytics. You will likely meet the following qualifications:

• At least a bachelor’s degree with strong emphasis on IT systems support and/or Scientific Computing or related fields.

• 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure development & support or a similar role.

• Experience with the following technologies:

  • Linux / Bash

  • Powershell

  • DevOps CI/CD practices

  • Python, Git, GitHub, etc.

  • Containerization (Docker / OCI / Podman)

  • Jupyterhub, Jupyterlab, and running Jupyter Notebooks

  • Active Directory (AD) / Single Sign-On (SSO) / Kerberos and Oauth

You understand the importance of ensuring stable platforms and a reliable infrastructural environment. You are excited to work with new technologies and concepts, and you possess strong team-oriented and service-minded qualities. Finally, you have professional proficiency in written and spoken English.

In this position, you will also have the opportunity to enhance your skills in the following technologies:

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Puppet, Terraform

• Container Orchestration (Kubernetes / Nomad)

• Cloud environments (AWS & Azure) incl. Storage, Compute, Networking
