We’re looking for a high-level hybrid engineer/architect — someone who’s not just running existing operations, but primarily focused on designing and building new services. This role blends strong engineering and architecture expertise with a deep understanding of the needs of application developers who will consume these services. The ideal candidate knows what makes developers’ lives easier, can bridge the gap between infrastructure and application teams, and is comfortable operating in the “gray area” between the two.
This is an Azure-focused role, with strong skills in Terraform or Bicep. The person should have significant enterprise experience, including an understanding of scalability, operational requirements, and the ability to design solutions that fit within enterprise foundations and standards.
While there’s no formal leadership responsibility, this person will act as an informal technical lead — the “go-to” expert for the team — providing guidance, setting technical direction, and supporting others.
Main Responsibilities:
Monitor system performance and troubleshoot cloud services to ensure high availability.
Manage and administer the cloud environment, including provisioning, configuration, policy governance, and security.
Automate and optimise cloud operations using tools like Azure DevOps.
Maintain a high-level understanding of the technical landscape and communicate this to the team.
Provide guidance and support to other teams based on your technical insight.
Resolve incidents and service requests from cloud development teams.
Collaborate closely with team members and stakeholders.
Maintain documentation of the cloud environment, processes, and procedures.
Key Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Significant experience with Azure (7+ years of experience), including virtual networks, database administration, virtual machines, and PaaS services.
Experience in cloud architecture and technical leadership.
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex setups clearly.
Experience in operating cloud infrastructure, including management and optimisation.
Nice to Have:
Knowledge of Enterprise Scale and Cloud Adoption Framework.
Sector knowledge within finance, pensions, energy, or banking.
Relevant certifications in Azure or cloud technologies.
Ability to work independently with a structured approach while also being a team player.
