Safety Engineer – Rolling Stock Modernization (m/w/d)

As a Safety Engineer, you will play a central role in ensuring that train modernization and retrofit programs meet the highest safety, regulatory, and certification requirements. You will support life-extension, refurbishment, and system-upgrade projects for in-service rolling stock, ensuring safe integration of new technologies into existing vehicle platforms. This position is based at our Villeneuve site, a key center for railway vehicle modernization, engineering, and industrial execution in Switzerland.
Lead safety engineering activities for rolling stock refurbishment and upgrade projects.
Apply EN 50126 / EN 50128 / EN 50129 throughout modernization lifecycles.
Develop and maintain Hazard Logs, Safety Plans, and Safety Case documentation.
Perform risk and hazard analyses for system modifications and retrofit integrations.
Define and manage safety requirements and traceability for upgraded subsystems.
Assess safety impacts of design changes, obsolescence replacements, and software updates.
Support validation, verification, and re-certification of modernized vehicles.
Interface with Notified Bodies (NoBo), Independent Safety Assessors (ISA), and railway authorities.
Collaborate with engineering, testing, production, and project management teams.
Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or equivalent).
Experience in railway safety engineering, RAMS, or certification.
Solid knowledge of CENELEC standards EN 50126/28/29.
Practical experience with hazard management and safety case preparation.
Familiarity with TSI compliance and European re-authorization processes.
Understanding of retrofit / modernization project environments is a strong advantage.
Structured, analytical mindset and strong documentation skills.
Fluent in French is required; English proficiency for project communication is expected.
