IT Defect Specialist
The IT Defect Specialist manages the entire defect lifecycle within software development environments. This role is crucial for minimizing risks associated with defects and ensuring the delivery of stable, high-quality software releases.
Manage end-to-end defect lifecycle including logging, classification, triage, prioritization, tracking, and closure.
Ensure defects are accurately documented with required technical and business details.
Drive defect triage meetings with cross-functional teams.
Assign defects to appropriate teams and ensure timely resolution.
Identify defect trends and recurring issues; recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Monitor critical and high severity defects closely, ensuring fast track resolution.
Ensure defects meet organizational standards for quality, impact assessment, and root cause analysis (RCA).
Support post-release defect reviews to identify gaps and process improvements.
Collaborate with QA teams for test execution cycles and defect validation.
Work with development teams to ensure timely fixes and retesting.
Communicate defect status, risk, and impact to project managers, release managers, and business stakeholders.
Generate and maintain defect dashboards, analytics, and KPIs (e.g., defect density, leakage, aging).
Provide visibility into defect health and quality metrics for ongoing and upcoming releases.
Analyze defect root causes and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Recommend enhancements to defect management processes, tooling, and standards.
Drive adoption of best practices in defect prevention, quality engineering, and automation.
Support the integration of defect management into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or related field.
3–7 years of experience in defect management, QA, or related IT quality roles.
Strong understanding of SDLC, STLC, QA methodologies, and defect workflows.
Experience with defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow).
Analytical mindset with ability to interpret quality metrics and identify trends.
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
Ability to handle high-pressure situations, especially during release cycles.
Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
Hands-on experience with automation frameworks or DevOps pipelines.
Knowledge of root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Why, Fishbone).
Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse technical and business teams.
Team Structure: Collaborates closely with development, QA, business partners, and release teams.
Project Context: Covers both Project Defects as well as L3 Production Defects.
