Senior Software Engineer / Lead Developer – PHP

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior/Lead Developer - PHP who understands both the technology and the business aspects of email marketing and performance marketing. The ideal candidate has at least 10 years of experience, excellent knowledge of PHP, and practical experience with JavaScript, Python, large databases, mailing tools (SARE, Elastic Email, other ESPs), API integrations, and mass-sending systems.

This role requires strategic, analytical, and business thinking, as well as the ability to respond quickly to technical issues and coordinate actions in a high-scale environment.

Project scope:

• Designing, developing, and maintaining systems for mass email sending, integrations, and large-volume data processing (PHP / JS / Python).

• Managing and administering OVH environments (dedicated servers, VPS, DNS, backups).

• Working with and administering Assembla repositories, including version control, code reviews, and pipelines.

• Integrations with ESPs such as SARE, Elastic Email, Sendgrid, Mailgun, or other mailing platforms.

• Setting up, monitoring, and optimizing mass sendings (schedules, throttling, IP warm-up, and reputation).

• Designing and maintaining automation processes (CRON, webhooks, ETL, workflows).

• Working with large databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL):

  • deduplication, corrections, sanity checks,

  • cleaning and segmentation mechanisms,

  • query and index optimization,

  • creating backup and data recovery mechanisms.

• Monitoring deliverability (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, domain reputation, bounce management).

• Responding to incidents and technical problems in real time (alerts, sending errors, integration/API issues).

• Creating tools to automate marketing and performance processes.

• Designing integrations with CRM/CDP, advertising platforms, and analytics systems.

• Collaboration with marketing, data, and business teams - understanding campaign goals and translating them into technical solutions.

• Mentoring the team, code audits, and co-creating system architecture.

Requirements:

• 10+ years of experience as a developer or systems architect.

• Expert-level PHP; strong JavaScript and Python for scripts and automation.

• Experience with high-volume email sending (millions/day).

• Solid knowledge of OVH servers (configuration, maintenance) and Assembla or similar repo tools.

• Strong understanding of email marketing systems and deliverability (SARE, Elastic Email, Sendgrid/Mailgun, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, throttling, warm-up).

• Excellent SQL skills (MySQL/PostgreSQL): deduplication, optimization, backups, replication.

• Experience with API integrations (REST/GraphQL) and automation workflows.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work across teams.

• Knowledge of GDPR and data security best practices for email.
