Data Architect (on-site)

Position Description:

We are seeking an experienced Data Architect to join our consulting team to help design and implement an enterprise-grade data lake and modern data platform. Our client has successfully completed a proof-of-concept (POC) and is now moving into full-scale implementation. The Data Architect will play a pivotal role in translating the POC learnings into production-ready architecture, ensuring scalability, governance, reliability, and business value.

The person filling this role must reside in POLAND and be available to work standard Polish business hours and occassionaly until 13:00 ET (19:00 CET) in order to cover crtitical meeting times times with the client who is based in Canada. Candiate must be willing to work in a CGI office five days/week

Job responsibilities:

• Design end-to-end data architecture and evolve the POC into a production-ready solution.

• Build scalable data lake, data warehouse, or lakehouse architectures.

• Define data ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption patterns.

• Create architectural artifacts such as data models, flow diagrams, and integration patterns.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to translate architecture designs into actionable backlog items.

• Provide guidance on data pipelines, ETL/ELT frameworks, and orchestration technologies.

• Ensure the platform meets required performance, reliability, and scalability standards.

• Define data governance principles, metadata management, lineage, cataloging, and retention policies.

• Work with security teams to ensure compliance with privacy, access control, and cloud security best practices.

• Align architectural decisions with business objectives and communicate them clearly to stakeholders.

• Act as a trusted advisor, mentor junior team members, and contribute to developing best practices.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

• 7+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or related roles.

• Expertise with modern cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

• Strong understanding of data lake/lakehouse patterns, including structured/unstructured data, streaming, and batch ingestion.

• Proficiency in SQL, ETL/ELT patterns, and distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Databricks, EMR, Synapse, Dataflow).

• Experience with data governance, cataloging, lineage, and security tooling.

• Demonstrated ability to design solutions that transition from POC to production environments.

• Excellent communication, consulting, and stakeholder-management skills.

• Experience with multiple cloud providers or cross-cloud integration.

• Familiarity with machine learning pipelines or AI/ML platform integration.

• Experience working in a consulting or client-facing environment.

• Certifications in AWS, Azure, GCP, or data engineering tools.
