You will join the leadership team of our new Infrastructure Platform, where we are committed to changing the way we work by implementing the DSO mindset and practices globally. We are responsible for building the Next Generation Infrastructure Platform for Bayer, supporting the integration, orchestration, and optimization of Bayer’s digital capabilities and assets, focusing on Connectivity, Cloud Computing, API, Automation and AI. We enable digital transformation, innovation, and agility by adopting new technologies, methodologies, and best practices such as DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, Composable Infrastructure Architecture, and Artificial Intelligence by design.

You will work closely with our Unit Heads as well as with our Principals. Our organization includes 220+ colleagues across five continents in 43 countries. We are accelerating digital value creation through standardized, secure, and efficient technology platforms – we are Bayer's digital backbone.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

As a Principal Architect, AI and Infrastructure Emerging Technologies, you will play a pivotal role in transforming our infrastructure. Your responsibilities will include:

·       AI-Driven Infrastructure Transformation:

o   Develop a comprehensive strategy for leveraging AI to optimize infrastructure operations, reduce costs, and empower innovation. Identify and prioritize AI use cases to accelerate business growth and time-to-market. Build a robust AI platform to support infrastructure automation and optimization.

·       Infrastructure Operations Excellence:

o   Drive the adoption of automation and self-service tools to streamline infrastructure management. Implement AI-driven predictive analytics to establish intelligent service level objectives (SLOs) and key performance indicators (KPIs) for proactive infrastructure management. Optimize resource utilization and cost-efficiency through AI-powered insights.

·       Technology Adoption and Innovation:

o   Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to create a future-ready infrastructure. Foster a culture of innovation and experimentation within the infrastructure team. Collaborate with other technology domains to accelerate technology adoption and integration.

·       Leadership and Influence:

o   Provide strategic direction and thought leadership for AI and infrastructure initiatives. Build strong relationships with business units, IT leadership, and other technology teams. Influence decision-making and secure necessary resources for AI initiatives.

·       Team Collaboration:

o   Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and synergy. Mentor and develop team members to achieve their full potential. Foster a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing.

·       Infrastructure Optimization and Consolidation:

o   Drive initiatives to consolidate tools and technologies, reducing complexity and increasing efficiency. Identify opportunities to optimize existing infrastructure through AI and automation. Ensure alignment with overall IT strategy and architecture standards.

·       Other Areas of Responsibility:

o   Stay up-to-date with AI and infrastructure trends. Collaborate with external technology partners. Contribute to the development of AI and infrastructure standards and best practices.

Required Qualifications:

•     A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field is required;
•     Extensive experience in AI and machine learning technologies, focusing on infrastructure optimization, is essential;
•     A deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), virtualization (VMware), and network technologies is required;
•     Strong programming and scripting skills in Python, Go, and Bash are necessary;
•     Proven ability to influence and collaborate across organizational boundaries is crucial;
•     Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills are necessary. 

Preferred Qualifications:

•     A Master’s degree in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field is preferred, with a Ph.D. being a plus;
