Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer / Financial Crime Engineer to join a team delivering advanced capital markets AML detection solutions.

The role focuses on the design, implementation, and optimisation of large-scale data pipelines, detection logic, and scoring frameworks supporting end-to-end financial-crime and surveillance use cases. The position combines strong hands-on engineering with close collaboration across data, technology, and business teams.

Project Context

The team works on high-throughput, distributed data platforms supporting complex capital markets surveillance and AML scenarios. Solutions process large volumes of transactional and market data using modern big-data technologies and rule-based detection frameworks.

Work is carried out in an Agile environment, with strong engineering standards, a focus on scalability and performance, and close cooperation with cross-functional stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Pipelines

• Design, implement, and optimise data pipelines supporting end-to-end capital-markets AML detection scenarios

• Develop scalable batch and streaming data-processing solutions using distributed compute platforms

• Ensure data quality, reliability, and operational robustness across pipelines

Detection Logic & Financial Crime Use Cases

• Implement detection logic, rule frameworks, and scoring components for financial-crime and surveillance use cases

• Support the development and enhancement of alerting and detection mechanisms

• Collaborate with domain experts to translate business requirements into technical solutions

Engineering Quality & Operations

• Maintain high engineering standards across code, pipelines, and operational processes

• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment processes

• Support non-functional requirements including performance, scalability, observability, resiliency, and security

Technical Requirements (Must Have)

• Strong programming skills in Python and Java

• Advanced experience with Apache Spark (PySpark) and SQL for large-scale distributed data processing

• Hands-on experience with distributed compute platforms and on-premise cluster environments

• Proficiency with CI/CD tools (e.g. Bamboo, Jenkins) and Bitbucket

• Experience working in Agile teams, with the ability to work independently in fast-paced environments

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high adaptability

Nice to Have / Additional Assets

• Understanding of Capital Markets products (FX, Equities, Derivatives, Bonds, etc.)

• Previous experience in Financial Crime, AML, or surveillance use cases

• Experience implementing rule-based detection systems, scorecards, or alerting frameworks

• Experience delivering against non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, observability, data quality, resiliency, security)

• Experience with automation, including pipeline deployment, data validation, testing frameworks, and workflow orchestration

• Experience integrating solutions with third-party systems (e.g. case-management platforms)

• A strong can-do mindset and ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams
