Andersen is hiring a Software Architect for a global engineering company. The role involves designing a scalable web-based GIS/AIS platform for interactive spatial data visualization.
The customer is a global consulting and engineering company specializing in water, environment, and sustainable infrastructure. With over 30,000 employees in 550 offices worldwide, it delivers science-driven solutions that address environmental challenges, infrastructure resilience, and climate adaptation.
The project is focused on developing a web-based GIS/AIS visualization platform that processes large spatial datasets, ensuring an interactive, scalable, and efficient user experience.
Tech stack: .NET, C#, React, Azure Cloud (App Service, Functions, Cosmos DB, Azure Maps), Osprey Seismic 4D, GIS/AIS, Mapbox, Deck.gl, Leaflet, Esri ArcGIS, CARTO, REST APIs, CI/CD, DevOps, Cloud Monitoring.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluating and designing the end-to-end architecture of a large-scale web application visualizing AIS/GIS data
- Assessing existing architecture, codebase, and data models to identify technical gaps and improvement opportunities.
- Diagnosing performance bottlenecks and proposing solutions to optimize responsiveness, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Defining front-end rendering strategies and selecting appropriate spatial data storage and processing models.
- Leveraging Azure-native services to build and maintain a robust, cloud-based infrastructure.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams (Frontend, Backend, GIS/Data, DevOps, Product Owner) to align architectural decisions with business and technical goals.
- Acting as a bridge between stakeholders, developers, and infrastructure teams to ensure cohesive solution design and delivery.
- Ensuring architectural best practices for performance, security, and maintainability across the technology stack.
Must-haves:
- Professional experience in Software Architecture for 4+ years.
- Strong experience in .NET backend development.
- Proficiency in working with Azure Cloud infrastructure (no AWS).
- Experience designing and building cloud-native, scalable, and secure solutions.
- Good understanding of React and front-end development (the existing front-end will be reworked)
- Ability to participate in discovery and architecture planning, with focus on backend systems.
- Experience with API development, data integration, and system interoperability.
- Deep understanding of geospatial data concepts (GIS, AIS, spatial indexing, clustering, tiling, streaming) and visualization frameworks (Mapbox, Deck.gl, Leaflet, Esri ArcGIS, CARTO).
- Understanding of CI/CD processes, cloud monitoring, and DevOps practices.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams.
- Level of English – from Upper Intermediate and above.
