Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer / Cloud-Native Tech Lead to support a large-scale banking modernization program. This role is suited to a hands-on professional who operates comfortably across architecture, platform engineering, and delivery, and who actively collaborates with client teams within live production environments.

The successful candidate will contribute to transforming legacy banking platforms into scalable, cloud-native systems, while guiding engineering teams through modernization patterns and DevOps best practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the modernization of legacy banking systems, including: Monolith decomposition, Strangler pattern implementations, Refactoring of batch and transactional processing

• Design and implement cloud-native architectures on Microsoft Azure

• Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Enterprise and GitHub Actions

• Support and lead migrations from legacy CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, TeamCity)

• Work directly with architects and engineering teams within active codebases, providing hands-on support and technical coaching

• Enable event-driven architectures and microservices-based solutions

• Integrate and coordinate the DevOps toolchain, including: Security - Wiz, GitHub Security, Code quality – SonarQube, Test automation - Playwright, Selenium, Artifact management - Nexus, Quay, Observability -Dynatrace, Kibana

• Collaborate in environments leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor)

Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of backend engineering experience, including hands-on involvement in banking or financial system modernization

• Proven experience with Legacy system transformation and decomposition patterns, Complex transactional and batch processing systems

• Strong expertise in Azure cloud-native technologies, including: Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Event-driven architecture patterns, Infrastructure as Code using Terraform

• Hands-on experience with GitHub Enterprise and GitHub Actions as a primary CI/CD platform

• Development experience in Java, Kotlin, Spring, or comparable JVM-based technologies

• Ability to work across a broad DevOps ecosystem with an integration-focused mindset

• Experience working alongside AI-assisted coding tools in enterprise environments

• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Nice to have

• Experience migrating CI/CD pipelines from Jenkins or TeamCity to GitHub Actions

• Previous experience in regulated environments, particularly banking or financial services

• German language skills
