You will develop and enhance tools and services that improve the WordPress Developer’s user experience with the WP Engine platform. These tools are designed to integrate with DevOps processes and are based on technologies that include SFTP, SSH, Git, and other DevOps-related software and services. Prior experience crafting, maintaining, and enhancing DevOps processes is beneficial. The ideal candidate will also possess experience with, or a solid working knowledge of, Site Reliability Engineering; establishing SLAs and SLOs, and monitoring SLIs to ensure reliability. Code configuration, deployment, change management, and automation of operational tasks are critical to the success of the Engineer and their team.


The Day to Day.

  • Design, write, test, integrate, and maintain services that are resilient, robust, secure, and perform at scale for tens of millions of end users
  • Write clean, maintainable code; improve test coverage and build deployment pipelines to safely and rapidly push code
  • Be customer inspired and work closely with business partners to incrementally deliver positive outcomes through technology
  • Constantly look for opportunities to automate and optimize
  • Research new technologies and incorporate them into new and existing systems and products
  • Be a phenomenal teammate to the other members of your scrum team


Your Expertise and Passion.

  • Hands-on experience working on distributed systems (in any language)
  • Experience in building and running production-ready systems and applications at scale.
  • Evaluating and optimizing the architecture of cloud-based systems and services for high availability, scalability and high performance.
  • Natural problem solving abilities, an inquisitive personality, and an eagerness to seek solutions to big problems
  • A passion for working alongside customers to recommend solutions that best fit their needs
  • Use data to understand the trade-offs and risks between deploying features and system stability (Google SRE mindset)
  • Shown history of continuous learning and ability to stay ahead of technology trends
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or a related field) or equivalent experience


Technical Skills.

  • Proficient in Python programming and shell scripting.
  • Experience working with at least one of the following cloud platforms: AWS, GCP, Kubernetes.
  • Working knowledge of web server components: Linux, Varnish, Apache, Nginx, MySQL and PHP.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP networking, High-Availability, SSL/TLS certificates and cloud infrastructure security.
  • Experience with one or more of the following tools: Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation, GitHub, Jenkins.
  • Writing queries for MySQL/PostgreSQL and the utilization of client-side tools to manage RDBMS systems (such as MySQL Workbench or SQuirreL SQL)
  • Production experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, GCP), microservices
  • Experience with large scale system integration through APIs, including long-running cloud functions
  • Familiar working in an agile environment using Scrum methodologies
  • Passionate about SRE principles, DevOps culture and cloud computing!
