Scaling globally, we are seeking a Database Administrator (DBA) with DevOps expertise to join our remote team. In this role, you will work across our diverse portfolio of products, including CKEditor, TinyMCE, ButterCMS, and Uploadcare.
Your New Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with DevOps expertise to lead our database operations across multiple platforms, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Elasticsearch, and Redis. This individual will play a crucial role in ensuring our database systems are robust, scalable, and optimized for peak performance. Additionally, you will bring DevOps skills to streamline our development and deployment processes, particularly within our AWS infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Management:
- Lead and execute PostgreSQL version upgrades with minimal downtime.
- Manage and optimize database systems, including mainly PostgreSQL, MySQL, and possibly Redis, ElasticSearch.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including index de-bloating, database migrations, and performance tuning.
- Monitor and manage critical database metrics, such as wraparound risk and index utilization.
- Proactively audit the current state of our databases and provide recommendations to developers on best practices and optimization strategies.
- Oversee schema design and usage pattern changes, providing DBA insights to developers.
- DevOps Integration:
- Collaborate with the development and operations teams to implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
- Automate database deployments, backups, and other maintenance tasks within our AWS infrastructure.
- Manage and optimize AWS resources, ensuring secure, scalable, and cost-effective operations.
- Integrate database management with broader DevOps workflows, ensuring seamless deployment and operational efficiency.
- AWS Infrastructure Management:
- Oversee and manage AWS services related to database and infrastructure needs, including RDS, EC2, S3, and other relevant services.
- Ensure high availability and disaster recovery planning within the AWS infrastructure.
- Collaboration & Leadership:
- Serve as the go-to expert for database-related issues across the organization.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to developers on best practices in database management.
- Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in database management, DevOps, and cloud infrastructure, implementing improvements as needed.
Job requirements
To be successful in this role you need the following:
- Technical Skills:
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator with a focus on PostgreSQL, MySQL.
- Experience with PostgreSQL version upgrades and maintenance with minimal downtime.
- Strong understanding of database architecture, indexing strategies, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Experience with database monitoring tools and metrics (e.g., wraparound risk, index utilization).
- Preferred experience working with Redis and Elasticsearch.
- Solid experience with DevOps tools and practices, including CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure as code (IaC).
- Expertise in managing and optimizing AWS infrastructure, including RDS, EC2, S3, and related services.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database and infrastructure issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with developers and other stakeholders.
- Self-starter with a proactive attitude towards continuous improvement and learning.
