Automation and orchestration across on-prem and public cloud covering containers, PAAS/CAAS/IAAS, networks and storage as well as legacy virtual machines - this is the main scope of the role.
Ideal candidate is the passionate professional about automation with a background in DevOps or Development.
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be designing, building and supporting an ‘as a service’ framework spanning both on-premise as well as public cloud. You will be looking at the best ways in which we can support our Development and DevOps teams with self-service across the board ideally with a single API for ease of deployment across both on-prem and multiple cloud providers. You will be building and maintaining a container hosting based on Kubernetes.
Beyond this part of your role would be to look at how we can accelerate network automation and to work with our video teams to guide them on adoption of cloud services and orchestration. It's not just about engineering but providing guidance and becoming the SME within the automation area working across our video, infrastructure (cloud/servers/networks/storage) and back office teams (windows) to drive automation and frameworks across the board.
Finally, ownership of monitoring as a whole, driving key data points from diverse monitoring systems into a single tool, collation of all the available data we have across our products/services and hardware with a view of dissecting that data to find any interesting trends or data points that can be used for continuous improvement and faster incident resolution and working with operational teams to try and promote the ideology of ‘self-healing’ across the spectrum.
HERE’S YOUR ROLE BROKEN DOWN (NOT ALL OF IT, JUST THE MOST IMPORTANT STUFF)
- Architect solutions for supplementary services like Single Sign-On and integrations with cloud applications
- Design how the services you implement should be supported and handover to the support teams, providing them with the training and documentation
- Respond to the needs of the business for new systems and solutions as and when they appear
- Support your project manager to keep track of progress and communicate to stakeholders
- Work with internal teams plus selected third parties to implement the architecture and ensure a robust, maintainable and supportable solution
- Act as the point of contact internally and with suppliers/vendors to coordinate activities
- Building monitoring solutions and mechanisms to respond to issues quickly
- Third line support of systems i.e. resolving incidents, problems and fulfilling requests
- Drive the automation and Infrastructure as a code principles across the organization
DO YOU HAVE THESE ESSENTIALS?
- Extensive knowledge about Amazon Web Service or other public cloud
- Experience with IaC tools such as Terraform
- Experience with at least one of the following configuration management tools - Puppet/Ansible/Chef
- Good knowledge of version control best practice
- Extensive knowledge on containers
- Extensive knowledge on monitoring tools and concepts such as white box and black box monitoring
- Experience of designing and running a time series platform such as Prometheus/Influx db
- Experience of infrastructure automation across Linux/Windows/Storage and network systems
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and persistence to see issue through to resolution
- Experience with load balancer solutions such as HA Proxy
