Job description

Who we are looking for:
  • Leading technical contributor and local team lead to the enhancement and maintenance of the CRD CRIMS and Alpha platforms. This position will primarily work with the the cloud native Performance Measurement and Attribution next generation workspace but will provide local team leadership to CRD engineers. Provide engineering troubleshooting assistance to customer support teams and other development teams within Charles River.
  • We are looking for a full-stack, cloud native engineer to help build out a workspace with a Javascript front-end and a cloud native, java-based back end deployed to Kubernetes.

CRD helps create enterprise investment management software solutions for large institutions in the areas of institutional investment, wealth management and hedge funds. Together we have created first open front-to-back platform - State Street Alpha, that was launched in 2019.

What you will be responsible for:
  • Manage a development team’s staff, including assignment of work items, employee performance, engagement and professional development
  • Work with Product Owner to design and develop software solutions to meet market need and assist in managing the product backlog for their functional area
  • Fulfill the Scrum Master role by leading the team in their Agile development process and working to foster a strong continuous improvement culture
  • Identify improvements in team development and quality including defining new strategies, processes, and required tooling to improve quality 
  • Write, review and approve software development specifications, projects, proposals, methods and schedules
  • Provide expert guidance and critical analysis of proposed changes during code reviews
  • Advise staff members on complex technical problems including specifying proper software designs and use of existing facilities to solve common problems
  • Monitor progress on a variety of initiatives and work packages to ensure fulfillment of product and scheduling objectives
  • Review testing strategy and test plans for team’s product to ensure high product quality
  • Mentor team members to cultivate technical and financial domain knowledge expertise, and assist with developing other essential skills to further their careers
  • Drive technical excellence by working independently to analyze, design, develop, test, and debug large and complex software enhancements and solutions within Charles River’s business and technical problem domains including modifications to core frameworks and other primary facilities critical to system operation
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts and Product Managers to create simple and sustainable software solutions for complex problems
  • Provide thought leadership in the design of product architecture within and beyond the team’s scope of responsibility
  • Direct problem solving for projects or major phases of projects to resolve advanced software technical issues
  • Develop, test, debug, and implement software programs, applications and projects using Java, C#, SQL, JavaScript, or other related software engineering languages as well as keeping abreast of emerging technologies impactful to CRDs business
  • Provide informed guidance and critical analysis of proposed changes during code reviews
  • Write unit and automation tests to ensure a high quality end product
  • Identify ways of improving development test methodologies contribute to and related test methodology frameworks
  • Conduct manual tests to ensure a high quality end product
  • Provide expert level troubleshooting on large, mission critical client implementations
  • Actively assist team leaders in the agile software development process by adhering to and advancing the CRD scrum methodology, including attending all daily standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives
  • Plan and coordinate cross-team activities groups to complete assignments
  • Advise senior management on technical strategy
  • Provide mentoring to junior and senior staff

Qualifications:
  • Experience developing enterprise software deployed to one of the major cloud providers (Azure, AWS, Google)
  • Experience with Java development in cloud native applications
  • Experience with Angular or React javascript user interfaces.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and Kafka is helpful
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional software engineering experience
  • Nice to have -  experience in financial services developing solutions for Portfolio Management, Trading, Compliance, Post-Trade, IBOR or Wealth Management
  • Authoritative experience with object-oriented programming, compiler or interpreter technologies, embedded systems, operating systems, relational databases (RDBMS), scripting and new/advanced programming languages
  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities involving multi-tiered, high-performance database applications
  • Demonstrated ability to design and develop simple software solutions to business and technical problems of high complexity
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work well with peers in a collaborative team environment
  • A minimum of 5 years working with an Agile development methodology
  • B.S. degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics or other technical course of study required. MS degree strongly preferred.
