Job description

Online interview

SpotOn is a cutting-edge software company dedicated to redefining the merchant services industry. SpotOn combines payment processing with customer engagement and business management solutions, giving small and medium businesses the data and tools they need to run and grow their business. Our tools increase revenue and connect businesses with their customers using rewards, deals, online reviews, website building, and data analytics. Tools like these were previously only available to big businesses with big bankrolls and their own developers, but our platform caters to neighborhood stores, independent retailers, and other small to midsize businesses. We have our service deployed in many cities across the U.S. and Mexico.

Within the Payments & Acquiring Group, the Execution Services engineering team owns the services and infrastructure for moving all kinds of money — cash, credit, crypto, or whatever’s next — between thousands of SpotOn merchants and their customers.

On a daily basis, you will:

  • understand the behind-the-scenes mechanics of electronic money movement
  • build the services and libraries that move money from customers to merchants
  • work with our Payments API team to expose money movement functions to SpotOn product engineers
  • help debug and solve critical production issues when they arise
  • mentor engineers who are early in their technical careers
  • work with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the company to build new features at large-scale
  • help improve internal engineering standards and processes

What skill are we searching for?

  • ~6 years of development in Python 3
  • familiarity with FastAPI, Flask, or similar frameworks
  • understanding of service-oriented architecture
  • building and maintaining production ETL processes
  • understanding of containerization, or experience with Docker/Kubernetes
  • usage of cloud/hosted infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • good grasp of asynchronous programming
  • contributing to code reviews
  • having worked on a medium-sized team (8-10 members)
  • having worked on a global team in multiple time zones
  • good command of spoken and written English

No prior experience in the payments industry is necessary. Everyone’s life and work experiences are different, so we offer the above as a guideline. If you are interested in our challenges and think your experience can help us meet them, we’d be privileged to speak with you.

Here’s a bit about what we have to offer:
